I hate the competitive game rules. They are no fun at all.
I was on an empty server the other day and was up against 2 people in the server's clan, they were 2nd and 3rd in the rank. I kept killing tem as Pyro when they were classes like Soldier and Sniper with flares and airblasting a lot. One guy kept whining about how Pyro takes no skill even after I kept killing him when he was the Pyro's hard counter, but the one guy wasn't a prick and was pleasant to play against. He would congratulate me for killing him and I would do the same. If comp players were like that then there would be no problem.
Indeed, if you can't play that class in their chosen tournament, then it is usually deemed "noobish" to use it, even outside of that tournament. Some competitive players are morons.

I finally let the one guy kill me, when I was Spy and had Dead Ringer whilst disguised as a friendly Pyro. It was funny. BAM "Fucking Pyro" uncloak backstab The other guy was a really good Huntsman Sniper. He once saved my life, though, he warned me of the charging Demoman that was behind me.

Often times it's a one shot thing at the beginning of the round, to flank, and cause some chaos to keep your team in the advantage. Often it's a good payoff, if done right. The pyro's range disadvantage is often a limiting factor on his use, though. He's mostly a one shot because once they know you're coming, they can out range you before you get close enough to do anything significant. Alternative classes are allowed, it's just in more cases, with such a small amount of teammates, a scout is more effective.
I've even seen effective Spies in competative.

If he had that then he could flank rather well and be seen more in comp.
Flamethrower jetpack wooooooosh Hey, that's what they could do to make the Backburner better, make him more mobile somehow.
I remember there being a suggestion way back about having a Backburner explosive burst thing that was akin to detonating a sticky bomb point blank. You could use it to get massive air. [editline]06:16PM[/editline] Also have any of you guys tried Highlander? If you don't like regular 6 v 6's then a Highlander might interest you.

If you guys want to laugh at our bad our team is you can check out some of the scrim demos I've saved, it will give those who have no idea what comp is a look at very low level play and how it works.
Comp is not for every one, and often it's for those that like to look down their noses at everyone playing Pub, I'm not for one second saying all clanners are like that cause they are not and the vast majority that i know enjoy pub and much as the comp play. I do dabble in competitive play on a regular basis, it can be really fun or a real chore but rewarding none the less.

It's almost bandwagon worthy but if they at least tried it once they might enjoy it.
I might try competitive once I get my new Windows CD (Currently using Linux, and Wine hates my computer). How common are maps other than 5-point CP maps (Badlands, etc.) in competitive play? I really hate playing them.
Why are people saying that removal of crits and class limits are unbalancing the game. You have to understand, and even valve said it that they didn't design the game for competitive in mind. Now imagine game designed for 12 vs 12 player teams, there is a lot of players, usually few dead constantly on both sides and a lot of general spam. Crits will save someone, you die, big whoop, you respawn and you go on to fight again. Now look at a game 6 vs 6, smaller teams make for a LOT faster games, usually winning 6-2 or so in around 14-20 minutes, 2 dead teammates can mean a loss of a point or even the whole round and you definietely don't want to be killed by a random rocket. Now if your crit chance increased based on your skill not luck i'm sure it could stay on, lets say you have no kills you couldn't get crits and if you get lots of kills or stay alive long you get more. Going to play, finishing this later.

I used to play comp but I left after 2 things 1. All teams were shit 2. They banned scoot update weapons Are those two still there if no I might return to playing comp

Is dustbowl used a lot? Also I'm British not American. I suppose European Leagues would be different.

I remember joining a private server where we were 6 guys against 6 clan members that were practicing for scrims. I would play normally but I'd always get killed by a demoman and a medic camping their intel. I don't get it... what's the fun in being 1/3 of your team CAMPING. Even worse is HEALING a guy that stands still.
Everyone whining about class limits, or saying class restrictions. Go ahead and try to win with a team consisting of a pyro, engineer, spy, 2 medics and one scout. You're going to lose fast. That's why most stick to the default line up of 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, 1 medic and 1 demoman. Demoman is limited to one because of how powerful the class can be, and the medic to make games more fast paced.

Then again there's a good reason why I'm not the head of a league...
Or it's a reason why you should be a head of league To this day we say that they threw us out because we named ourselves after touhou characters and "animu fagets" shouldn't be better then other people :tinfoil: according to them anyway
I don't get why people hate people like that in TF2. I don't like anime shit usually, but they usually have a good sense of humor and are generally good sports. They usually fool around more and take the game with a light heart. They laugh at their own deaths. They are almost never elitist pricks who are constantly making a point out of how skilled they might be who rage every time you kill them.
Okay now to pick up where i left off. Lucky crit is just taking away the skill factor from the game and they would be kept in if they were all skill based. Now for class limits, medic is limited to 1 because very few people (in comparison to other classes) like to play as medics this means unbalances and just general troubles in clans and matches. For example team1 has 2 sollys, 1 scout, 1 demo and 2 medics when other team is running 2 sollys 2 scouts, 1 demo and 1 medic. The second team is in a disatvantage just because they dont have the same amount of healing power just because people dislike playing that fun as it isnt near as hard or fun. Now some people cant tell a difference between a community clan and a real competitive clan. community clans usually have few teams such as clan1, clan2 and so on and hang out in their public server where they can abuse rules or whatever. But its the other type that looks so elitist to you, its actual competitive players, rarely any more than 8 players per team they play matches every night and practice together. These players rarely go on public servers but when they do they are very often on top. Even the players themselves would fall into a general category. You could have a nice guy who congratulates you on your kills, helps you out, and teaches you something if you ask. This guy will be the nice but good guy in the team, he will suggest the need of extra medic, less spies or snipers in a pleasant way and you will most likely listen to him. You can also have the quiet guys who do not talk too often but own people up and don't seem to grow their e-penis for no reason. And ofcourse the assholes who will constantly rub it in when they kill you, come up with an excuse such as lag, scratched my nose, wasnt paying attention or something when you kill them, they are the guys who will call their own team noobs and will be first one to ragequit when you lose. I understand people have had bad experiences before with the competitive tf2 players and so on but trust me, competitive tf2 has got amazingly nice community in comparison to communities of counter-strike and other games. I'm sorry to hear all the people here especially showing so much hatred towards competitive tf2 and it really didnt destroy the game, if anything it pulled in more growth. Most of this might not even make sense but it did in my head and i find it hard to get messages across with text. And im high. [editline]10:56PM[/editline] Oh and a lot of elitist guys ARE actually better than you at the game, now that may be because of the fact they nolifed TF2, or other similar game before or just are good naturally so they brag about it, sometimes on troll basis, some do because they think that competitive is for good players so they think they are good (this usually happens to new competitive players, it happened to me i though i was so awesome at the game when i joined my first tf2 clan 2 years ago, but i didnt know it was possible to airshot someone with a rocket before i saw the reptile frag video :V)
