I love the gunboats and all you have to do is get used to going without shotgun and picking targets more carefully. Demos don't need to sticky jump. They only use it to get to exploit areas and camp.
Wheres that 'I told you so' button at?
tl;dr

I like demo more than soldier. FYI, i don't use eyelander + chargin' tard.
I would say "I would hate demomen even more if they had gunboats".
I've played with gunboats, they're awesome.
Step 1) Equip the targe (BLURGH I KNOW ITS GAY AND OP)
Step 2) find a wall.
Step 3) shoot a grenade at the wall
Step 4) jump at just the right moment and the grenade will send you up about 1.5x as high as a RJ, with the targe it does roughly 20 damage.
Step 5) Practice it a shitload.
It ain't as good as a rocket or stickyjump, but it'll give you back some mobility.
I'd like to see it becoming a valid playstyle for a demo.
I dunno man, I RJ EVERYWHERE now that I have the GB's, and I almost never take em off. You can escape ANY fight and get back to it in no time once you heal.

Yeah, I'm not saying they're totally useless. Using them is a blast (no pun intended) and I like to use them whenever I can.
They should've kept the Equalizer taunt survival part, it actually gives more use to the Gunboats.

Looks like you owe them £1.99
What saddens me most about the War update is this-
Soldier-
*Awsome near balanced primary
*Awsome balanced secondary
*A completely awsome upgrade for a melee
Demoman-
*A secondary that is countered by bullets
*A melee that can only be used effectively with the secondary
*Another secondary that's only use is to camp
Then the icing on the cake, the soldier gets the extra bonus weapon. Valve did a really good job at pissing off demoman players.
The gunboats were better when they helped you survive the Soldier's tauntkill.

And yeah, Demoman got the shitty end of the deal.

Can't help but agree with you there, and the Scottish resistance is still a downgrade if you ask me, seems to complicated to get used to.
Am I the only one that loves the Scottish Resistance?
All you have to do is play more defensive than offensive. With the increased amount of Sticky Grenades, you can create a goddamn MINEFIELD.
To detonate them all at once, just stand far enough away, or group them together.
As much as I would have loved to have gunboats for the demo, you just know that someone out there was gonna go targe/gunboats/eyelander.

Maybe, but as someone who never played a whole lot of Demo I can say that I'm actually enjoying the Targe a lot. It's extremely different from the sticky Demo, but once you get good at just using the grenade launcher and knowing when to charge it's very powerful and a lot of fun to use.
The Targe is a unique weapon in that, while the others still more-or-less follow the class's basic gameplay, it essentially creates an entirely different class that plays very differently and doesn't really appeal to people who play sticky Demo. While it's a bit of a shame that the people who played and enjoyed the class before didn't get anything out of the update, there's always the possibility of more unlocks.
I'd quite like the Sco Res to wall hack.
That'd increase its value.
The soldiers should of just left us alone...
EDIT: Bad spelling?
All though the sticky launcher does one hell of a jump, it also deals a whole bunch of damage.
A whole 75% reduction of self-sticky damage would be a bit too strong, as the jumps are extremely high. A few stickies will launch you to the other end of the map.
All though, I do agree that it is quiet useless for the soldier.

You kidding me? I love the Scottish Resistance. Camping, as in defending? Kind of like what demo's supposed to do?
And the targe and sword are powerful as shit, you just need to pick targets instead of the spam many demos are used to.

If a demo was able to single sticky jump anywhere for 20 health, he'd be a more mobile flanking class.
The outcome was never really a doubt.
Sorry just had to say that, but I do agree completly with you.
I wanted the Demoman to win, but when I found out what the bonus weapon was, I immediately changed my mind. The Soldier rocket jumps more than the Demo sticky jumps.

The reason that the demoman doesnt stickyjump so often is because one stickybomb jump takes 40-50% of our hp, whilst a rocketjump takes 25% of the soldiers health.
Believe me we would stickyjump a whole lot more if we had gotten the gunboats.
Hey, people on the Soldier side didn't know what they were fighting for. I think it's safe to say we were all pretty disappointed with the Gunboats and WAR update conclusion.
They have been warned. At least on FP, it has been mentioned many times.
[editline]09:10PM[/editline]
Gunboats should take up melee slot, with a nerfed shovel attack in form of kicking, while still having the rocketjump resistance higher. (for any class it's used on)
I predict a new comic where the Demo and Soldier are still enemies, but they come to respect each other and the Soldier shares his gunboats with the Demoman.
We could have another comics update, where it turns out that Soldier and Demoman actually stopped fighting, and came back to friendship, sharing the gunboats (making it available for both classes). I was disappointed by how the story ended :frown:

Automerge broken BY NINJA :ninja:
I also ninja'd your idea

bitch

Ain't got shit on me
Sixty agrees. I think it's pretty safe to say that at this point most people wouldn't mind if Valve let the Demoman use the Gunboats now. :v:
It would actually just be a simple edit to tf_items. All they need to do is add the Demoman as an eligible class. The Gunboats already fit on his player model just fine.
I don't care if demos get it too.
But if only one class gets it, it's mine. :black101:
