I didn't support demomen because to be honest, demomen piss me off, they're a bullshit class in pyrovdemo, so I didn't want them to win. But all the replacements favour pyros so far (except the sco res.) Rarely seeing sticky whores makes me very very happy.
That's why I was Medic where there was no shortage of bloody saps needing my healing touch. That was a major boost toward my "Chief of Staff" achievement.
The war update could have had a difrent item for each character. For all we know demoman could have gotten a magic beer bottle that allows him to shoot nades out his nose. I dont recall anyone saying that if demo won, He'd get the same item sooly would have gotten. Now Just because the gunboats would work on both of them dosent mean that they planed for it to be the same unock for them both right?

It's possible that the Demo may have gotten something different visually (boots seem like more of a Soldier thing- maybe the Gunkilt?), but I'm fairly certain that it would have had the same function.
Well the vtf/vmt files for the Gunboats are "c_rocketboots_demo," so odds are the Gunboats were going to be for either winner, though the name would likely be different for the Demo.

targe+gunboats = no ranged weapon gunboats only affect splash damage you use on yourself so it'd be a waste since you can't stickyt jump WITHOUT THE STICKY LAUNCHER :/

In the loadout menu the Grenade Launcher is secondary and Sticky is primary.

They definitely would help out the class, although to be honest, soldiers only won because of the propaganda. I crafted 22 items trying to get gunboats, and all I got was a fucking duplicate bugle.
