Its designed to be a medium or close range alternative to the sniper rifle.

You should instead have to FIGHT and prove your Worth in order to get new gear. In fact, I devised a system based around repeatable mini-achievements, "experience" (called Worth in my system) earned by completing said mini-achievements, and items dropping when you earn enough Worth. I even had various limitations in place to prevent some dishonourable git from earning Worth by grinding on a server with Bots. For more info on the Worth System, here's my Pastebin of it. The whole point of the drop system is so that new players can get the weapons "easily." The problem is, with the current drop system and the large amount of weapons, it takes awhile to actually get an item you want. If Valve really wants everyone on an equal playing field, they should just give everyone every weapon and keep the drop system for hats, paints, etc.

It would immediately let players have access to all of the weapons so they can find the playstyle that suits them. There would be nothing wrong with it. I do think Valve could have done painting a lot better. In other words, not at all. Just give us a menu to paint our hats for free instead of having to go through the long-ass process of trading or finding them. You know, like every other game on the face of the planet that allows for character customization.

And in the end, when you're finished you'll feel like you've accomplished something. It's like grinding for a good weapon in WoW and finally getting it, I've been there. You can get pretty much any hat these days, except of unusuals (but most fags that brag about them usually dont get off trade servers entire day), not even talking about weapons. But instead of just waiting for few weeks to get stuff you want you should be able to use everything by default, thats my opinion. It would kill collectioning though, yeah.
