My god, looking at TF2 these days is like looking at an octopus trying to tentacle rape a basket of snakes.
I guess that explains why I like it so much then.
Not wanting to be "that guy", but what about the sets that actually require cosmetic items inorder to receive the benefits IE Milkman of example?
Those sets usually give very slight benefits, and they can be acquired through random drop anyways. Part of the reason why they're so expensive is also so that those who do want to spend money can't buy their way into great perks: some of those packs are more expensive than TF2.

I agree the benefits aren't extravagant and can be acquired without buying them in the store, but I'm just pointing out, in Leafs' post, that Valve did say hats weren't going to be used in any other way than cosmetic, then the polypack came around.
They changed that with the other packs added it, they probably realized how no one liked hat bonuses so they axed that idea.

Indeed, which is a good thing. (I'd like to think public outcry was the catalyst in this) But the fact they did it in the first place irks me. Then again, I suppose it does limit the amount of Scouts with extra HP running around.

And then the Earth imploded.
hey remember when this thread was about the next update :v:
That was great...

Valve has admitted that it was a major screw-up on their part. Heck, there's even a chance in this update they'll remove the hat requirement.
Other then that, the bonuses aren't really a big deal for the most part, considering how using the exact set limits you to a certain playing style that people know how to counter due to it being so popular.

Ah yes, page 1.
Good times.
how did this turn from discussing the leak and speculation and then to this shit
how did this turn from discussing the leak and speculation and then to this shit
We ran out of relevant things to talk about so the thread when to the "default" TF2 section discussion.

Again, I'm aware of them admitting it was a bad move. I was just pointing out the other Valve statement in your post and bringing up the polypack ordeal. Frankly, I'm not a big fan of sets, but I suppose that's why I've the option of not using all of them.
Back to the topic: Any new updates regarding the STS? Or was the last few things we saw the only things we're going to see?

Valve took everything down after the leak got released.
I was only able to get 2 out of 5 pages of strings, so there's still a good number of strings left that we just don't know.
The only two items from those strings I know about are Scout's Hoodie and Luchador Heavy Hat, the rest weren't told to me and are gone from the server now.
Damn our inability to stop snooping around! :arghfist: :frown:

did the other pages contain more items? or is it just stat stuff or something.
Simple fact is its fun to use new items that come in updates. And its nice to get updates. Do you ppl understand that the updates for tf2 were going to end ? The only reason they didnt was thanks to the shop. So what, you have kids running around with funny hats, the guys who model the items get some cash, the guys who do the maps can get some cash aswell. This will encourage map makers to make better maps in order to get it on the shop. This all drives tf2 to have a much longer life, and to keep growing from a $20 product.
If you really think valve is some EVIL money hungry company because you cant get a HAT in a game, your just being very childish.
Hope you guys are not looking forward to dota 2, that is going to have even more then a hat shop. Each char will have tons of cosmetics to buy. I dont care, kids buy the hats, icefrog gets paycheck to make dota 2 updates with quality team, we all win. But wait for the kids to moan about the hats :<

i do not understand which side you are arguing for
Is something up with Facepunch?
I could have sworn I clicked the STS Update Leak thread...

I only know of the Hoodie and Luchador hats.
It could be, or it could just be the description strings for a new game mode or something. Maybe training for the other classes that need it.

Hum, they *already* made new sets without hat requirement. On the medieval update.

I'm aware of that, and there's a good chance these new ones won't require the hat.
I was talking about the old sets.

Oh right, didn't catch what you meant.
But I'm doubtful they'll change the old polypack, that would just not seem like valve, they're too lazy to do this.
Sadly

I think its got more to do with ppls bought the hat on the shop for higher then normal hat prices. Most did this for the spy bonus, to remove the hat from the set would cause much rage.

Meh, just make their hat vintage and they'll shut their trap, if they BUY a hat, they're probably the kind of idiots who'd pay 300 euros for an unusual.
:words:
The fact that it takes a paragraph to explain why a character should have a hat shows that they should not.
Back on topic, do you guys think the explosive projectiles will have a "health"? I.E, it will take 10 bullets to take out a Rocket, and 5 to take out a grenade? I think one bullet to take out the projectiles is too little.

Considering the spread on any of the miniguns, I think that having 1 bullet destroy the projectile is justified. 10 bullets is just insane, that's over 2 full seconds of hitting with perfect accuracy with a weapon that gets randomized spread.

Good point, I think 10 bullets would be too much, maybe like 2 or 3, I think would be better.
This also leads to new rocket launchers and grenade launchers, too - maybe a grenade launcher will have more "health" at the expense of a pill. Who knows?
This also ushers in a "goalie hoovy" game mode.

It only works on explosive projectiles - the rockets and grenades.
