Uh, yeah, they do it all the time, they have a system set up just for this, because y'know, when an update comes out the servers have to be updated, which admins have to do, so warning them in advance let's this transition a lot quicker...
Yes. I just doubt that they would announce a big update like this. And it's a source engine update most likely. I want them to update very badly, but I am finding lots of doubt.

They have before a couple of times (That weren't day-to-day countdown updates).

They don't usually do pre-notifications for minor bug fixes they usually just announce it when it's released.

Probably a rather large engine update, or judging by the "mandatory", maintenance.
Well, I'm staying on the optimistic side and saying it's the big update. Think about it, it's a Thursday, the most common day a major update has been released on, and if they started translating them a couple weeks ago, itd make sense to release it right about now, cause translating is usually the last thing they get done. I know there are still fixes that need to be made for the Hatless Update, but they could ship them with the big update.
It's also possible that they're going to add something to the game in preparation for an event leading up to a big update. Remember, they added the friendship voice lines and Soldier/Demoman kill counters so that people would have something to do while they watched the update unfold over a week. Then there was the whole Golden Wrench thing.
Look we don't know anything. It could be today, tomorrow, or a month from now. It could even be a week long reveal update.
I don't care if its a highfive system, a new crate, or even a fucking hat style
I just want something NEW

I can change my loadout as long that I'm in-game. However, trying to acced via the escap menu make my game crash on clicking on a class :[
But fixes + updates are better, hope it'll be tonight.

Normal updates get applied to dedicated servers automatically and valve dont send out a email for them. If the update requires the dedicated server admins to do something their side(happens with large updates) then they send out mail. Could be nothing, but it could also highly be something.
