can't wait... the Saxxy Awards should be wrapping up right after my Bio EOC's... I put up with that utter hell of a class, and my reward is Meet the Medic and a TON of new stuff...

This new replay feature is fun

Something I cooked up in the last few matches I played, the only way demopan should be played :objection:
I'm completely ignorant when it comes to server maintenance/ownership.
What's the difference between a server that has replays enabled and one that doesn't? Does it cost more to maintain an enabled server? I guess my real question is: why would a server owner NOT enable replays?

1. He is too dumb to enable replays
2. He hates having people on his server
(It only causes lag if you do it wrong)
The game is over 10 GB of content at this point.. How much more do they plan on adding to it?

As much as they can before having to sell TF2 as its own machine.
15GBs is usually the point where most console ports meet their threshold on PC, just as an fyi.
Well, if it reaches 15 GBS, do they completely remove tf2 or just ditch it and never update it again?
I was thinking about Custom Badge works this way:
Step 0. You can take transparent "pixel" by crafting any weapon alone with itself. Or they could be free.
Step 1. You color "pixel" with any Paint. Or you can craft N transparent pixels with Paint to have N colored pixels.
Step 2. You place "pixels" into the Crafting' window and press "Craft". Let's name the result "Part of the Pic".
Step 3. You place "Parts of the Pic" into the Crafting' window and craft them to the "2nd Part of the Pic".
Each "part of the pic", big or small, you can equip in misc. slot.
The bigger resolution of your picture, the more you need to craft pixels.
Also, you can mix colors (for example, color yellow pixel with red paint to have orange pixel, etc).
Go, make your painis-trainis, wasting your paints.

Don't think about the end of team fortress 2 yet. It's Valve's biggest money emitter. Even if it reaches 15 GB they WILL find a way of making it playable and if it has to be something like server data thingy.

precisely. hell, the Polycount contest raked in upwards of $5k per winner (Valve got the other 50% of the profits). I think it's fair to say that Valve discontinuing TF2 is the absolute stupidest thing they could ever do. it's gotten to the point where they could do nothing but TF2 and still make a ton of cash. as long as there's computers, there will be TF2. I can only see them releasing a sequel when TF2 becomes so outdated that comparing it to current games would be like comparing the NES to the PS3, and even then it'd definately be backwards compatable with all the previous maps, hats, weapons, etc. just better graphics and such.
A few of the hats from the list were added on Thursday
It's a fair assumption that the rest are coming in a few weeks for the Saxxy Awards
Which hats?

The Hardware Update!
Introducing:
-dx10 graphics
-full 64 bit support
-...
-...
I would like that. :)
Which hats?
I remember the Tudor Topper, the Splendid Screen, the Heavy Thinker and the Pocket Medic at least, as well as the set hats
I'd love if specialty mode is a vanilla mode

I think TF2 still has one/two years or a bit more before they announce TF3. Hell, I'm dead sure Meet the Pyro will be a Team Fortress 3 teaser trailer, if it's not... well, I wouldn't be too dissapointed

I would be VERY excited to see them start working on Team Fortress 3, because perhaps then they could recreate the game I loved but without all the silly unfitting things and the chaotic gameplay.

also, anyone else noticing something wierd about the view-based achievements?
I have well over 100 views on one of my vids, but it still says 17 on Steam... is it gonna do like a weekly update kinda thing, or....?

Dare I say it, but vanilla TF2 tends to be a little dull, if by Vanilla you mean "no unlocks".

What's with the numbers next to the hats?
What do they mean?

I had to do this to get my 100 view achievement.

it means that they were the Xth person to craft it. also, thanks for the picture. a #93 Ol' Geezer means that it probably goes up to 100 at least. so yeah, I have an AMAZING chance of getting a numbered Capone's Capper once the Saxxy's are over
:D

I don't see why everyone says that. I've played vanilla TF2 as much as I possibly can and I still haven't gotten bored with it. I think it's a lot more exciting without unbalanced weapons and a lot better looking with no hats.

As long as it has new maps (Not only 6. That was precisely one of the bad initial points of TF2 when it came out. That and the overly nostalgic TFC players whining about the lack of grenades, etc...) and balances ( No hard-as-fuck-to-play-with Engineer and Spy or overpowered Soldier/demo) I'd be fine with it. And I love certain unlockables myself (I seriosly can't play Pyro without a flaregun, or play Engineer with the normal wrench), but it's Vanilla, what are you gonna do? v:v:v

the only thing I wouldn't like about Valve adding an official Vanilla mode is that it's already readily available. So instead of getting a really cool new game mode, we'd be getting a server mod with an official sticker on it... I wouldn't be FURIOUS, but it'd be a tad dissappointing, seeing "NEW GAME MODE!!!" in the new update and finding out it's "official" vanilla mode.
Not to mention, I actually quite like it with all the new weapons and such. It makes the gameplay much more deep. That's what I like about TF2 in general; you CAN just go Rambo and start spamming, you'll do OKAY, but if you assess the situation and think about how to best defeat whatever enemy you're facing, you'll do much better.
As for the hats... well, most of them are quite good, and there's very few that I don't like (Capotain, Gatsby, etc.) but most of them fit quite well with the art style and the character's personalities (pretty much all of the Soldier's hats, for example). It doesn't really take me out of the experience since I was never really in it in the first place. The art style is like a Pixar movie, so it wasn't exactly "immersive" to begin with. so far, Valve have done a decent job with keeping the hats and such time and character appropriate, if not exactly fitting with the art style. it's purely cosmetic changes in the end. even if you don't like the art style, TF2 still has great gameplay.

As anti-unlocks I may be, I still think the Gunslinger and Flaregun are absolutely perfect unlocks that I would miss in a vanilla game.
Team Fortress 3 could be the Old West Mercenaries from Loose Canon and a stylistic Old West art style, as far as aesthetics go.
The only problem with vanilla in my eyes is that the pyro gets kicked in the balls.
The degreaser is generally considered to be a huge upgrade over the flamethrower. The axtinguisher is generally considered to be a huge upgrade over the flamethrower. However, a degreaser axtinguisher pyro is not considered to be more powerful than a vanilla demo or soldier.
Now what happens when you remove two straight upgrade weapons from a class that was only just par with the alternatives when using the unlocks?

You know what would be cool? If TF3 had something like what Mario Party 2 had where each map had a theme and the characters appearances would change depending on what map you played on to match sed theme.

That would be really badass for TF2.
Like have heavy and medic with fur coats on winter maps, demo's undershirt off and soldier's sleeves rolled up for desert maps, scout with a hoodie for raining maps, etc.

Would have been really cool and I would have welcomed winter clothes and apparel being automatically assigned on winter maps and such, but it seems extremely unlikely now due to how it would interfere with the cosmetic items.
