Maybe if he used google he'd find there already IS a way to disable them.
Maybe if he used google he'd find there already IS a way to disable them.
http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=15916 You mean this broken and outdated thing?
I believe there does exist up-to-date hat/unusual effect blockers.
Go on SPUF. There is oen there I believe.
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=22285068 Oh hey this has a lot of promise if he can get it signed by Valve. That means it would work on VAC servers and since its an addon it would be remotely updated.
Go on SPUF. There is oen there I believe.
It's a Server Plugin. Which means that if the server disables hats, NO one can see them anymore. :colbert:
Asking for a client side option to disable hats and or paint is a far more reasonable request then say a "vanilla" game mode.
But far less likely. Valve put some ridiculous value (some being more expensive than Call of Duty DLC) in their cosmetic items.
Why is this getting rated dumb? Asking for a client side option to disable hats and or paint is a far more reasonable request then say a "vanilla" game mode. Besides the people who would use it don't usually care about hats/trading/craft etc. so its going to be a very minimal impact on the market. Personally I want it because then people might stop bitching about hats so much and talk more about things that really impact the game like weapons.
What with the hat-model loading error that's been in the game recently it seems like there's nothing to worry about! I do wonder what's up with that, though. It's not just me, either. A friend of mine and I took screenshots of us taunting together. In my screenshot, I was wearing a Pickelhaube and a Beak, and he was just wearing a Beak. In his screenshot, he was wearing a Tyrolean and no beak and I had nothing on. Hope they fix that soon, I love my White Pickle and Beak combo.
I just hope that VALVe would add a "Disable hats" option. I really want my art direction back.
tbh, that's not a bad idea. as in, make hats invisible for certain players, make them visible for others. I wouldn't use it (I likes mah hats), but it'd be one less complaint Valve would have to put up with. [editline]14th May 2011[/editline]
But far less likely. Valve put some ridiculous value (some being more expensive than Call of Duty DLC) in their cosmetic items.
idk, the people who would disable hats are the people who dont care about hats, and therefore wouldnt buy any hats or paints from the store to begin with. so they'd be alienating people who weren't spending money in the Mann Co. Store to begin with.
Super secret 6th page! http://my.jetscreenshot.com/4320/m_20110515-jbpp-124kb.jpg We're getting some kind of backpack viewer built into Steam for TF2 and Portal 2 apparently (and any other game with a backpack)
So uh... Ned... it's been a few weeks since this whole thing has been brought up.. and nothing so far happened, besides the adding of a few of the hats. Is there a time when this will happen or not?
So uh... Ned... it's been a few weeks since this whole thing has been brought up.. and nothing so far happened, besides the adding of a few of the hats. Is there a time when this will happen or not?
Probably the Saxxy award night, which will probably happen in early/mid June I'm giving Valve a very liberal estimate of 2 weeks to judge, but it could very well be 2 months of judging.
Most likely when the Saxxy awards are awarded.
Wait, I thought the award thing ends in a few days..?
Wait, I thought the award thing ends in a few days..?
The contest ends this thursday But Valve will probably need a few weeks (lol it's Valve so count on a few months) to judge them.
The content ends this thursday But Valve will probably need a few weeks (lol it's Valve so count on a few months) to judge them.
God damn valve time :argh: I wonder how much people entered anyway.. I can bet there are at least 1k replays that suck, and valve will be like 'lolno you won't win'.
That's not page six. It's not even a secret. It's been on STS for couple of months already and has nothing to do with this update leak.
I know It's just the 6th image I posted, and I just received it this morning.
Wait... if we get an ingame backpackviewer it means Bye tf2items.com, bye tf2b.com? [editline]15th May 2011[/editline] Oh it's old. Fair enough
(kinda off topic, but at least something to discuss until any news pops up) apparently Valve might try this new business model where popular players who are nice (join a server and people stay, don't cheat or greaf, etc.) will get games cheaper (and some for FREE) as opposed to players who people don't like (has been reported, causes servers to die, hacks, cheats, greifs, etc.). speaking as someone who tries to be nice and helpful to everyone, I LOVE this idea. free games are never bad.

I can't think of a way a system like this, nifty though it is, could work remotely well.
This would be pretty much impossible to properly manage, especially if it was an automated system. I can't think of a way a system like this, nifty though it is, could work remotely well.
what I think they might do is just have multiple categories. which one you fall into depends on your behavior. say someone isa griefer, has been banned from multiple servers, muted, reported, etc. they'd fall into, say, category 4, so they'd have to pay extra for a game like DotA2. however, a player who is generally well liked by the community could fall into category 1, so they'd get DotA2 for FREE. idk, but it's Valve, I wouldn't be suprised if they found a way for this to work.
Paying extra/getting a game for free based on behavior sounds like an odd system. People could just report you, and you'll have to pay extra.
It's been on STS for couple of months already and has nothing to do with this update leak.
So apparently you haven't logged in on STS for a couple of months, then...
Paying extra/getting a game for free based on behavior sounds like an odd system. People could just report you, and you'll have to pay extra.
the only thing is that Valve reviews reports. if they just took every butthurt griefer's word for it, I'm sure I would have been permabanned a LOOOOONG time ago. it's the same with "hey Valve, I just lost 20 Unusual Attendents from my backpack. could you please restore them for me?". they don't just take the player's word for it, they look into it. they know if they just blindly shouted yay or nay, the Steam community would be completely screwed.
the only thing is that Valve reviews reports.
Only for item reports. And that's only because valve believe that their items are worth many, many polished riches.
i hope this thursday is it!
i hope this thursday is it!
I really doubt it. It will take Valve at least 2 weeks to judge the videos. The fastest I've seen them judge something was the propaganda contest, and I think this contest has more entrants than that contest.
I really doubt it. It will take Valve at least 2 weeks to judge the videos. The fastest I've seen them judge something was the propaganda contest, and I think this contest has more entrants than that contest.
it took less than a week to look through 11,000 entries
it took less than a week to look through 11,000 entries
For those they had to just glance at them and go "oh cool" Probably less than 10 seconds each. These are minute long videos. That's 11,000 minutes, assuming they get the same number of entries. That's 183 and a half hours worth of video. Or one full week (of 24 hours) and half a day of videos. It's going to take them awhile to get through them. Even if they have 4 or 5 people doing it.
agreed. I'm guessing we'll get it next Thursday, for consistency's sake
