Whenever there are opinions, there'll be 'more popular' and 'less popular' hats. Few people like the Madame Dixie, for example, which makes it worth less as there's simply less interest in it.
There's also a Hivemind to a certain extent, where people pick up on which hats are generally more liked and decide to like them or try to trade for them too.
Sadly, it's just a natural part of Hatonomics.
