Unlikely since: 1. The blogpost during the Engineer update outright stated that he cut off his arm to attach the Gunslinger. 2. His gunslinger is attached further up on his arm than what the glove covers.
The thing about it being under the glove was more of a joke. It's also way too thick near the stock to be inside the glove, and surely we would have heard the robotic sounds all along then. I don't actually remember what they said in the blog post, but it's hard to know when Valve is joking and when they are being serious by now. It's just... Uh... It ruins all thoughts I ever had for Engineer, chopping off your own limb on purpose is pretty fucking sick.
I love the teddy. Sort of shows that the Engie has a "soft side". A little companion. A "Lil' Pocket Pardner"
I don't like it. Engineer was soft enough with his gentle Texan personality, the kind of calm friendliness you aren't always sure is genuine or not. The Teddybear is just out of place and makes him look too soft. He was the most mature of the group, why would he bring a child's toy with himself on the battlefield?

I don't know.
Maybe he made it as a child or something, dreaming to some day be an engineer/inventor of some sort, like Radigan, and he carries it with him. I don't know.
That just sounds like typical girly deviant-art fanfics, which we all know are terrible.
I'd personally say the Sniper moved the least from the original concept. Engineer is also high on the list, but considering he probably did chop off his own limb... That's just... Ugh, so far away from the original Engineer. Sniper didn't move all that much, sure he throw piss, but his personality overall still seem to be the same. He still is a professional crazed gunsman(not the mental sickness), and still one of the classes which seems to be more sane, and not too much of a douché all the time. You know, beside the average humiliation during domination, but that goes for all classes.
I actually don't think it was too far away from Engineer's original personality to chop of his hand to replace it with a machine. Just look at "Meet the Engineer", and remember that cold, dead serious look on his face as he delivers the final line.

Soldier:Tough Commando guy-Batshit insane war-hero fanatic, with his love of japanese themed war hats bordering on weaboo level.
That just sounds like typical girly deviant-art fanfics, which we all know are terrible.
I wouldn't know if such a fanfic actually exists, just an idea as to where the Teddy might have come from. I guess it does kinda exaggerate the engie's "soft side", that is clear anyway, but I think it's cute anyways. I also like the idea of it being the Engie's "Partner".
Engineer is also high on the list, but considering he probably did chop off his own limb... That's just... Ugh, so far away from the original Engineer.
Not really, he solves problems. Not problems like "what is beauty" because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. He solves practical problems.
Stereotypical Australian crocodile hunter/bushman - Medieval archer
But, weren't we having such stereotypes all along? I know I did. He's Australian, he see himself as professional, he had Crocodile Dundee stereotypes going for him all along(even vanilla). He's Australian, the original hat, the "This is a knife response", his first "real" hat the Trophy Belt. The bow aren't all that farfetched either. It's the Sniper Rifle of the Medieval times. It got very long range(well, in-game it got pretty poor range for a bow, but that is for balance), it's very accurate and shots in the heads is fatal.
Not really, he solves problems. Not problems like "what is beauty" because that would fall within the purview of your conundrums of philosophy. He solves practical problems.
He quotes videos that everybody has seen, too. Especially when it doesn't make sense.

I don't see how people could love it for any real reason other for the same reason they love Pyro wearing random objects on his head.

A bow may be similar to a sniper rifle, yes, but it still doesn't make sense, and is pretty far from the snipers original personality. My opinion, at least.

My opinion, at least.
Well, I guess that depends on view. Personally, I've never seen Medieval items as being too unfitting, since they at least come from a time which was set BEFORE the TF2 universe, so maybe they had weapons as wall decorations in their homes and thought "Well, this could do!" and brought them into combat. They still doesn't fit with the original theme, but at least they aren't items from the future, like some items is. It makes sense that Sniper chose a bow(crossbow would makes sense too), when he was to choose a weapon of older times. Now, why Medic would choose a Crossbow... That's just weird. The Huntsman does maybe not fit so much into the original theme, but it does fit for his personality. It's very long range, it's accurate(except the falloff was overdone in TF2 for balance) and it's good to impale heads with. I do actually think a Crossbow would have made more sense, though.
What problem did he have with his hand? It doesn't seems like a problem to him when I play vanilla Engi.
Ignore that post really, it doesn't seem like a very serious answer. I think the real reason is simply that he's willing to take his inventions to extreme levels; he's willing to sacrifice his own right hand to replace it with something that would make him part machine. He could do this without regret, because his relationship with his machines is beyond obsession.

Engineer isn't all friendly and loving, and yet again I would recommend "Meet the Engineer" as probably the best example of Engineer being downright terrifyingly serious about what he does. Namely, [sp]"...and you best hope... not pointed at you."[/sp]
my engineer turned from a boring camping hardhat engi to a badass "cyborg" killer engi, got rid of the hardhat in the process too.
Well, it really were obvious that even Engineer wasn't an angel all along. Should be obvious from the point you realise he is in a game where everyone is a mercenary. He might be more calm about the whole situation than the others, but he certainly were not some firendly bro all along. Still, even when having seen Meet the Engineer, I'd still say there is a long way from killing others in huge stacks with machines, to cutting off your own limbs for science. I personally would never have thought Engineer would do such.
It doesn't fit with his personality, it's just similar to the weapon he uses, a sniper rifle. A sniper rifle doesn't necessarily fit with the bushman theme, but it works, since he's a mercenary. The machete fits perfectly with his personality, though. So do all his melee weapons. Most people say that Jarate is unfitting and ridiculous, but I disagree. It's a reference to meet the sniper. He drinks coffee and pisses in jars in secrecy, as if he's at it for days. If somebody on the enemy team did end up finding him, he'd probably panic and throw one of the jars of piss at him, rendering them vulnerable. It makes sense. Anyway, back on-topic. The huntsman was only given to the sniper for the reason that its similar to a sniper rifle. It doesn't fit with his personality at all. Same with the Larrikin robin and yellow belt. The Robin was only given to the sniper because of the huntsman, and the yellow belt was only given to him because of the name "Jarate".
The heavy IMO hasn't changed that much He went from a a big guy with a devastating weapon, to a guy who's been tortured most his life (Living in the gulag, watching innocent creatures being slaughtered [Mentioned in PNATI]) who soon found a big interest in guns and sandwiches. With most hat updates he came more characteristic (Ushanka shows his patriotism, Tough Guy's Toque shows he is still the little boy he was at heart, Big Chief shows he thinks he's the best class with the Team Captain, his Halloween mask shows him as a scary monster [Which he can be], The Luchador and Pugilist show he like combat sports)
And the Bison hat shows he could be an end-game boss fight
Even if I agreed on the Huntsman being unfitting, it would still be his only unfitting weapon, and for that he still get credit for being the least changed class from the original concept, in my eyes. Neither did the Huntmans have a direct impact on his personality in general. It's not like, for example the Gunslinger, where you get the idea that Engineers personality overall changed, and he now is more obsessed and insane about his machines than ever. Or like Spy, who seems so have become a little too happy about being a douché all the time. All Huntsman tell me is that... I don't know... Maybe Sniper got a thing for old school weaponary which share similiarities with his sharpshooting nature. It doesn't really make him look more or less sane, or something around those lines.
I don't mind jarate really, it was a fun reference to that video and not extremely out of character either. I just don't like the lengths the whole jarate thing was taken, with jarate bandanas and rifles that shoot jarate. I also think that he's got TOO many ultra Australian things rather than normal weapons a professional assassin might be expected to use.
Call me crazy, but if I could chop off my own hand for an awesome robotic hand, I would. Then again, maybe Engi didn't know if it would be a success, which does make it crazy. Then again, Engi knows what he's doing.
I still hate Pyro. Enough said.

It would be pretty fucked up to put piss into darts, so I'd imagine it's some sort of poison. Not that I have any idea if it is, I just honestly think it's Valve who can't be bothered to do a new effect, because they would rather do 10 new promos.
