You forget to factor in each class' max health. A fast hitting weapon of lower dps can kill faster than a huge hitting slow weapon if the connecting swings are of a similar amount.
EDIT: He was showing the difference in the DPS (damage per second) of the heavy's melee weapons compared to the new one.
