"the biggest, most ambitious update in the history of Team Fortress 2" And then community made weapons. Really ambitious. [editline];[/editline] With +/-15% stats. Oh boy.
There is more. Most likely (from STS): More community packs Meet the Medic More non-set weapons/hats New Unusuals Another map More Customization More styles Most content of any update so far.
see OO
Not really.
If Valve is just going to do boring +%/-% set ups for all the new weapons, they may as well not even add them to the game. I miss when unlocks were generally a lot more unique, interesting, and felt really inspired. Hell, the Shortstop, Mad Milk, Battalion's Backup, Your Eternal Reward, and Crossbow all prove that community weapons can be functionally inspired and unique. Instead, most new stuff just seems Jag-ified now.
Can't wait for what today brings us, so excited. :buddy: [editline]21st June 2011[/editline]
If Valve is just going to do boring +%/-% set ups for all the new weapons, they may as well not even add them to the game. Instead, most stuff just seems Jag-ified now.
Can someone explain why Valve can't turn 75% of the community/unlock models into styles of default weapons, or have them simply be stat-clones like the Iron Curtain? I'm more excited for MTM/Uber Update because of what we've seen as far as the site revamp. A lot of thought and effort was put into reorganizing and polishing the site layout and content, which hints to me that they've got major upgrades in the pipline, by which I mean game mechanics. This is obviously being done as large scale test of the already leaked DOTA2 mechanics seen in the TF2B and dug up in the code itself, and I have the suspicion that they're also going to do some unexpected things (hopefully asset and artstyle cleanup).
Good stats for the new heavy weapons: The new minigun +No spun up time, silent deploy +60% more accurate +No bullet Spread -70% less ammo loaded -Resupply locker only refills half ammo The new Shotgun: +30% damage done +10% more pellets per shot +Stumbles enemies at close range ?(a la Left 4 Dead) -Will minicrit instead of crit -5% movement speed on wearer New Knuckles: + 40% faster firing speed + 10% damage done + 3 successful hits in a row will cause the enemy to bleed for 8 seconds - -20% deploy speed - No random Critical hits
And this is why you'll never be the idea-guy, because your ideas SUCK , seriously, 0 idea of balance. A sniper-minigun? Check A shotgun that stuns at close range (THE ONLY RANGE THAT SHOTGUN IS EVER USED AT) and does MORE damage while STUNNING? Check A melee that has NO DISADVANTAGE? Check Suddenly the weapons' real stats look a lot better, thanks to you and your terrible suggestions.
Can someone explain why Valve can't turn 75% of the community/unlock models into styles of default weapons, or have them simply be stat-clones like the Iron Curtain?
it's a lot easier to use their ideas for new weapons instead.
Can someone explain why Valve can't turn 75% of the community/unlock models into styles of default weapons, or have them simply be stat-clones like the Iron Curtain?
What's the point, really? Weapons are meant to change the game, and not how the game looks (with a few exceptions).
I still think the brass knuckles stats are ridiculous. Metal knuckles do less damage? Yet swing faster compared to gloves?
It should do knockback instead. That would change things up and fit with the name of the weapon, too.
Can someone explain why Valve can't turn 75% of the community/unlock models into styles of default weapons, or have them simply be stat-clones like the Iron Curtain?
Well, the contributors no longer get their item in the mann co store if that were enacted. Also, there's a distinct point where you go too far having too many reskins of the same WEAPON. Hats and misc items are fine since they don't alter gameplay, but Valve made it clear that threats should be identifiable by simply looking at them in this order: class, team, weapon. The set bonus introduction was one of the few times they went against that but they've admitted that it was a mistake.
The new minigun +No spun up time, silent deploy +60% more accurate +No bullet Spread -70% less ammo loaded -Resupply locker only refills half ammo
Go to a resupply locker twice :v:
It should do knockback instead. That would change things up and fit with the name of the weapon, too.
Then Mecha would need to make yet another set of stats for the Alt Fists of Steel :v:
I'd rather these items be useful than a pile of gimmicks. See the Sandman and Amputator.
I'd rather these items be useful than a pile of gimmicks. See the Sandman and Amputator.
Sandman can be useful.
Go to a resupply locker twice :v:
or kill yourself
I'd rather these items be useful than a pile of gimmicks. See the Sandman and Amputator.
I thought the amputator was gimmicky. It's definitely unbalanced.
Can someone explain why Valve can't turn 75% of the community/unlock models into styles of default weapons, or have them simply be stat-clones like the Iron Curtain?
I would actually agree with this. Hell, I remember the reception of the first few community items (like the Pain Train and Homewrecker) being quite negative because of how uninteresting and overwhelmingly situational, if not useless they were, and now it seems like almost every new weapon is just like those. TF2 always struck me as a game where everything was effectively streamlined, precise, and very little was wasted, and now almost all of these new weapons feel like a waste. This is why I dislike the store; it encourages Valve to just shovel a bunch of shit into the game en masse, and sticking them all with boring and thoughtless functions because doing anything more interesting or ambitious is too time consuming. But hey, at least we're getting some new guns and not another goddamn lunch box.
Next update will be named as "Bunch of Fucking Hats" And there will be image which includes 723 different hats. Hat overload.

It's not as if those items will be less attractive if you remove the set bonus, and it's not going to affect the artits because those stats were Valve's decision. Besides, the player base has put up with far more drastic nerfing/buffing with weapons as it is.

I'm getting sick of community updates. And promo items. TF2 is becoming way too bloated. It must be tough for new players, so many weapons and items to worry about.
I would actually agree with this. But hey, at least we're getting some new guns and not another goddamn lunch box.
The sad thing is: I support the unlocks and new weapons wholeheartedly, but the implementation is so half-assed because of rushed promos and mismanagement as far as update releases and actual feedback between Valve and the playerbase. As far as weapons go, they should only tweak the strengths and attributes each class already has, and not add new attributes or totally nullify weaknesses or totally alter the class's function (specifically the Targe, it should have been/be a melee weapon, not removing half of the Demoman's function as a class.) To be fair, most of the new content hasn't been quite as egregious as the Demo's, but several items have gotten very close. For example of a GOOD but extreme in terms of effect unlock, the Buff Banner's addition of an area effect does not break the Soldier because it trades his ranged self defense attribute to amplify the effect of his rocket splash damage. As a Soldier, this means that by trading the ability to defend at medium range w/o self splash damage, your efforts in dealing team-wide damage is rewarded by temporary crits/defense/health (I think the Concheror is guilty of mission creep with the Medic, but it's not so egregious as to warrant concern.) God, I really need to write that article, or go see a shrink.

I know a friend who just started playing (because of me) and he's actually topping the charts (he's pretty good at fps'es)
the eviction notice is the most "fun" of the weapons so far, only because of the steak punching like fuckin fist of the north star
