There was a thread on this a while ago, which supposedly prompted VALVe to include a Very High texture option, which is still one numeral from the best quality textures.

I'll not use this in TF2 because I can't run it well at all, but I'll try this out in Episode 2. I can play it maxed with 30 FPS, so this is even better. Well I'll be damned! mat_picmip -10 made the game pretty goddamn sexy. The effect you get when you shoot in the water is [B]FABULOUS![/B] Teleport and bumpmaps are [B]FABULOUS![/B]
Hmm, I don't see any difference with teleports. But that might be because I have to force D3D8 on Wine :)
Is there a console command for bumpmapping? Changing any settings using the ingame options instantly crashes for me.

Does anyone know if there's a command to make water splashes not refract? Because that lags me a lot at times.
Also, don't use mat_specular 1. It bugs out when playing demoman for some reason, and you can't see the intel properly. [b]Edit:[/b] Aaww, no fancy water explosions. And bubbles floating into the air. What the heck. [b]Edit:[/b] Also, rocket impact decals are screwed up bad.

Just tried -10. My game froze for a moment but it was fine, only noticed an FPS drop of about 10. I was hitting around 90-100 FPS without the command and 80-90 with the command. Didn't make a great deal of different but the minigun did look a little shinier lol. Will this command be on next time I play TF2 or will I have to put it in the console everytime? If so it's not a great deal different to be bothered doing.
Can someone upload an autoexec file, or can I just name a normal txt file autoexec.cfg?
why? no use, if your comp can't handle it as a console command...well...
