How To Make TF2 Look Better Through A Simple Console Command
I'll try it when I get my Quad Core Processor. :D
It's awesome - I get 80-200 FPS!
Good command, thanks for linking me to the original too. :3:
You only notice it on small stuff. Like very small stuff.
Can't tell the difference during playtime (when you're fighting, not taking the time to look at stuff).

I don't see a huge difference (This is with -10.)
Look at the teleporters.
And why did you block off your name? Afraid to get raped? :v:
also look at the sign by the dispenser, the wooden texture is pure sex
I'd only use this for screenshots to be honest. I'd rather have the speed in TF2.
There's hardly any FPS drop, remember!
How can i put this into "config" so it works everytime i load up TF2?
I didn't have to do the autoconfig thing.
I just typed it in the console after the 2 times I started up TF2 and it saved it. :D
Cool cheers.
Now, if only I could increase my draw distance...
Edit:
Dear god, TF2 with bumpmaps on is... realistic.
Edit:
What the fuck, the blue/red things around player's eyes are actually reflecting.
Edit:
What the fuck, no mouth animations. What's up with that?
Edit:
Using r_shadowrendertotexture 1 also makes TF2 crash.
How do I get bumpmaps?
How do I get bumpmaps?
The command with bumpmaps is mat_bumpmap(s) (Can't remember if it has an S) 1 0r 0, but I tried both, and neither seem to do much more than lock my game up for 30 seconds.
Also, what the hell are bumpmaps? Or, what the hell is bumpmapping?
Look at the teleporters.

If i leave my name on i get all these noobs that add me to steam friends saying "HOW DOES I DO THIS IN HAMMER" and it gets fairly annoying.
Also by teleporters, do you mean the particle coming out of it or the model itself?

Errrmmm...
I don't see any difference between 0 and -10.
All this does is force the highest resolution map to be used, no? Because mipmaps are just the lower res versions of the high-res textures, just as LOD models make models lower in polies.
If you want a real fps dropper, use mp_hwmmodels 1 and mp_usehwmvcds 1 to force the cinematic models for tf2 characters (Way higher poly) and double their facemap texture res, along with enabling facial wrinkle generation.
If you have an 8800GTS or better you can handle this setting without losing fps.
There was a thread on this a while ago, which supposedly prompted VALVe to include a Very High texture option, which is still one numeral from the best quality textures.
This was back in the beta days.

Sounds cool. Could you screenshot it? I can't really be bothered to because I don't have a very good eye for detail.

Without mp_usehwmmodels 1:

With mp_usehwmmodels 1:

The clipping on the hat in the second pic is from the camera being too close.

That's nice, I gotta try that.
EDIT:
Okay, I did it and it does work. However, the face posing seems to be toned down a lot do to the command. The upper part of the face stays dull and boring and sometimes the mouth doesn't fit well to the taunt. (Engineer laughing and the Demoman burping are good examples.)

Kinda makes the game dull since the upper part of the face never moves... the over exaggerated facial expressions which give the game that funny cartoon feeling to it gets replaced by dull face posing.

Oh, that explains a lot...
Anyone manage to run TF2 without compressed textures yet? Vista BSOD'd ("OUT_OF_PAGE_POOL_MEMORY" or something similar) when I tried it in there. Haven't tried it with XP yet, but it crashes with Wine.
Bahh!
TF2 barely runs on low for me, piece of shit comp from 2005! :(
Mine's from 2001! Never upgraded because my dad's a dumbfuck mother fuck face! Beat that :)
And good God those textures are sexy, wish my computer can do that.
That's awesome. I'm going to try this.
While we're on the topic of console commands, though, does anyone understand the command "create hairball"? I came across this back when I played Smod a lot and I was always going through console commands and fucking with the settings. Every time I used it the game crashed so I'm not sure if it was a forced crash through the console or if it was just such an immensely awesome thing that my computer couldn't run it.

It creates flying hairballs, but it crashes HL2 - not Source '07 and the Ep1 engine, though.
For what purpose, though?!
mat_queue 2 crashes my tf2.
Intel Core 2 duo E6750.
Am I doing it wrong?
What results (frames per second) would I get with these specs?
CPU: Duel Core 2.6 GHZ AMD Athalon
GPU: BFG Overclocked 8800GT
RAM: 2 GB
Current TF2 Settings
All Very High, 8AA
I get about 95-140 FPS with these settings.
I bet you liek long threads!

to the man that said dull faceposing, mine is perfectly normal with the settings, and the upper does move.

Edit:
The low FPS is because mat_queue_mode 2 renders my screenshots completely black so I had to turn it off :(
I can't notice the difference between the cinimatic models and the non-ones.
