You could make it look like a signal is coming in (so an overlay of an image with a flickering opacity). That way you could add the pyro's head without losing the cool static effect. I think it'd look really cool if there's static with the pyro's head appearing and disappearing really quickly.
I was going to do the screen see-throught at first so you could see the head inside, but didn't like how it turned out and changed my mind to show only static. Nevertheless, since so many people are asking for it I'm going to give it a go. It's also probable I end up doing versions for the rest of the classes to replace the gibbus or any other hat once I get this one nailed down. It's a shame I can't send this to valve :(

Is the seam in the middle intentional?

Really good work there. Have you thought of a name yet? And BTW does anyone know how you can decrease the polys on your models in 3ds Max? Mine is at 4500 which doesn't make me glad :(
Is the seam in the middle intentional?
Not at all. However I had planned on making a leather like seam there anyways so it worked out.
Not at all. However I had planned on making a leather like seam there anyways so it worked out.
That's actually exactly what happened to my very old aviator cap as well. :v:

Mine is at 4500 which doesn't make me glad :(
There isn't a magic modifier that'll make it perfect for you. That's something you have to learn and do by hand. Selecting your edge loops then CTRL clicking 'remove' is a good start.

Mine is at 4500 which doesn't make me glad :(
From what I can tell you're using a lot of primitives. What I suggest is to lower the amount of segments on each one. Though if you already changed them to editable poly/mesh, try deleting all faces that aren't actually visible from any angle. The best idea would be to start over again, using primitives with less segments, or to try doing some poly modeling.
...How do you select your edge loops? And more importantly what is an edge loop?
If you're using 3DS max, I can definitely recommend the (built-in) viking hat tutorial, it shows you a lot of great tools. I'm using the 2010 version where they changed the interface a lot, and that tut is definitely meant for the new interface, so if you're using an older version it may not be there.
this new pyro hat ur working on sucks so bad. all hat mods suck. the whole idea sucks. nobody apart from you sees it then where the hell is the fun? stupid as hell. all you dipsheets trying to make something nice that actually is stupid and pointless, geee.....
Ah right, I thought so, but google translate told me that means cup among a lot of other meanings, so I started doubting. And since cheveux also started with a c it seemed pretty cool (see what I did there?) to me. Okay, "Casanova's Cunning Coupe" it is.
Yeah, coupe doesn't only mean haircut. Coupe de cheuveux is correct, but it's not something you would say, French people are more likely to say "coupe" directly, it's way faster.
Here's the final (with backstory): Casanova's Cunning Coupe Chéries! A cryptic conundrum, chaos incarnate, cackling in the carnage of close-minded cretins. A cosmopolitan charmer, never coarse nor crude, courting chiquitas clothed in corsets, causing them to climax from cunnilingus. Confidently controlling the combatzone by conducting complex contrivances, confusing the clumsy clowns that call themselves contenders to the crown of the contest. Catering casualties to the competitors, to abscond and camouflage in the crowd, crippling computerised contraptions constructed by clods. A cultured champion, a connoisseur of cuts, you can call me Casanova. Also includes but not visible: jigglebones for the tail (it will still clip with the suit when crouched and looking up, etc, but that just can't be helped) and a blue skin.
this sucks so bad. srsly your modeling sucks (User was banned for this post ("This is not constructive criticism" - verynicelady))
Cool.
