Why would you install an EMP device into a battery?
Same reason people on instructables fit solar batteries and arduino-driven microcomputers into altoids tins
It looks cool

Added a padlock. Thought it might look good. Yay or nay?
Also fingerless gloves, however... I have a feeling that those may not work.
Both these suggestions came from Altimor, by the way.
I really don't see how this fits into the timeline of TF2, the Punk subculture didn't come to the US, UK or Australia till the mid 1970s, TF2 takes place in 1969

Out of everything in TF2 that clearly does not fit the timeline, you pick this, which is one year late? :v:
Out of everything in TF2 that clearly does not fit the timeline, you pick this, which is one year late? :v:
I said Mid-1970's not the beginning of the 1970's
I thought TF2 was in the 50s
About the punk items...
There are a few anachronistic bits in TF2. I think I read they didn't use the type of batting helmets scout uses until a bit later, according to the official TF2 wiki. Scout is just a trend setter.
Why would you install an EMP device into a battery?
To power the EMP? A EMP device needs power doesn't it?
fuck this physics.
Here's a couple of quick, un-resized pictures of icons I'm working on. Tell me what you think:
Team Colored Gloves of Steel:

Sgt Plushie:

I know there's some green pixels in the pictures too, I plan on taking them out manually. If anyone knows a quicker way to do that than what I'm doing to take out the green pixels, It would be a big time saver if you told me...

pft, tf2 is like 4 years old, punk ought to be there soon
i'm thinking of putting some kind of engraving on it to make it more unique
'cuse me, I just need a cool shower and a change of pants.
huhthewah? no i just didn't have time to look at it. if you send me the TGA instead i can convert it witch practically no compression
Okay here it is http://www.mediafire.com/?15a0jby1cbu5nyz It might have solid black stripes but it uses the black texture paint method so hopefully the you know how to make the alpha uncompressed too.
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Storyline#1968
I was thinking of Portal 2
pft, tf2 is like 4 years old, punk ought to be there soon
The game still takes place in 1968 despite the game being 4 years old in our time

The padlock looks really out of place.

what image editing program are you using? using model viewer for the pictures, too, right?
The game still takes place in 1968 despite the game being 4 years old in our time
bah, i'm sure the tf2 storyline has gone at least a year forward by now, with all the updates and comics etc

you only need the one vtf, either tell the blue vmt to use this one as well or copy the vtf and name it blue. It takes less space to do the first one though
what image editing program are you using? using model viewer for the pictures, too, right?
I used model viewer to position the icons and what-not, Windows Snipping Tool to take the picture, and GIMP 2 to delete the selected colors, a.k.a. the green parts.

increase the tolerance when selecting the green or enable anti-aliasing
I usually have a more subtle BG color, so any stray pixels will go unnoticed and then select it with the magic wand having 0 tolerance and anti-aliasing on. usually gives me good results
don't know if gimp has that though...
I really don't see how this fits into the timeline of TF2, the Punk subculture didn't come to the US, UK or Australia till the mid 1970s, TF2 takes place in 1969
Every time this arguement comes up I want to just ragequit life.
- Yes, punk as we know it today didn't come around until the 1970s (I'm getting to that) but this is an alternate timeline where women have facial hair as a fashion statement, there is an element that makes you smarter and more manly at the same time, and automatic sentry guns not only exist but can tell who to shoot simply by clothing hue. I think we can make an exception here.
- Punk grew from the garage rock and surf music that was already a major deal before TF2 rolled around, with such songs as "I Can't Control Myself", "Kick Out The Jams", "I Wanna Be Your Dog", "Venus in Furs", and "My Generation" being some of the first known "punk" songs before "punk" was even a genre. All of which came out BEFORE 1970.
- Metal has already been established. Black Sabbath and Judas Priest formed in 1968 and 1969 respectively.
- You know it's been four years since TF2 came out. If that was real in game time? It'd be 1973. The world's first official punk band, DEVO, formed in 1973. The Stooges put out their official 100% punk rock album, Raw Power. Ramones hit the scene in 1974.
So, by this point in the world people already would have been putting hairspray in their rugs, wearing combat boots, leather, and studs. It's two chord changes and some serious face hate away from mohawks and spiked collars.
:v:
I removed Altimor's suggestions. They weren't going to look right, period.

So, a background color like a really pale green or a grey that doesn't clash with the model colors?
I used model viewer to position the icons and what-not, Windows Snipping Tool to take the picture, and GIMP 2 to delete the selected colors, a.k.a. the green parts.
Unfortunately I don't know GIMP. Have you tried using its Color to Alpha tool?
So, a background color like a really pale green or a grey that doesn't clash with the model colors?
yeah as long as it's not exactly the same as on the items edges
also what's "Windows Snipping Tool"? I just print screen and paste myself

Making it fit the art style is more important than making it fit the time period.
