These are lackluster and not nearly as shiny as I anticipated.
What, they don't have the awesome reflections from the blog post? :saddowns:
But those are people who don't have a real hat. That guy's saying that people value promotional hats over real hats for some reason.
I have the towering pillar of hats, two soldier hats, one demoman hat, the alien swarm parasite, the halo, and I still use it?
I have the towering pillar of hats, two soldier hats, one demoman hat, the alien swarm parasite, the halo, and I still use it?
wait what still use what?
I agree, but I hate that argument. Your favorite TV show just got a new character added that annoys you and does stupid things every episode? OH WELL, DEAL WITH IT OR JUST STOP WATCHING YOU UNGRATEFUL INGRATE YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY YOU GOT A NEW CHARACTER AT ALL
The case with TF2 is alot more different. The hats basically don't affect gameplay,at all and its not like you are going to have a "hat off" with your enemy when you are filling each other with lead. So there is basically no point in going around "TF2 SUCKS,VALVE STOP ADDING THINGS THAT I DON'T LIKE" okey so i guess the argument can be watered down to "if you dont like it,ignore it and move on"
and this situation's worse considering I paid for the thing not that I'd ever let the dumb hats ruin the awesome core game for me
thankfully we can filter out the stupid shit valve decides to add. but it's the principle of the matter. Valve spent years perfecting the whole TF2 theme, with all the cool designs and stuff. Now they go and ruin the whole look with dopey looking earbuds and alien parasites and shit like that. It's not canon and it just ruins whatever immersion existed. I find it sort of hypocritical of them to do that considering they spent all that time perfecting the theming, etc.
wait what still use what?
The bunny ears.
The bunny ears.
do you wear it on the soldier and demo? My point is you're saying that people "rank" event hats higher, but any form of ranking system is six kinds of retarded. However, generally the players are six kind of retarded, and they value regular Valve hats higher than event hats, and I can't say I blame them for picking the ones designed to fit the class over the marketing gimmick. But in the end, it comes down to what you think loos best. You put on your hat, and I make it invisible, and the world keeps spinning round.
What, they don't have the awesome reflections from the blog post? :saddowns:
because those screens are prob from model viewer?
do you wear it on the soldier and demo?
No, but they don't really work as well with the soldier and demo, I would use them for the scout, heavy and maybe spy.

Team Fortress 2 had a brilliantly unique style going for it. A lot of these additions (absurd hats, promotional items, and other items) simply compromise it. It is not a difficult point to grasp, yet people seem very persistent on insisting that all change is good change.
I for one never really cared about the setting, TF2 was always silly and illogical, and although the addition of objects such as earbuds makes it even more incoherent, such items were never meant to be taken seriously in the first place. It may have changed from a semi-strict setting to something more open and silly, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Why don't people complain about the sandvich and chocolate? I've heard a few comments about how they don't fit in the TF2 universe, but most of the hate is directed toward hats, which don't even change the game.
You haven't heard our rants about the Sandvich and Chocolate? C'mon, you're not THAT new are you?
I don't mind silly I just want silly that makes sense.

TF2 is based around the 50's isn't it? They had bread and chocolate back then... So there's no real reason to hate either of those. They kind of bent the whole 50's theme technology-wise, with flamethrowers and absurd syringe guns and sentries and stuff, but they managed to keep them within the whole scope of their theme. The parasite hats and earbud bullshit is just marketing gimmicks for all those people out there who seem to value rare items, no matter what they are. If Valve came out with a hat that was literally a gigantic piece of dog shit and only gave 20 of them out into the community, would people use them? Yes they would, because the TF2 community is comprised of a bunch of petty children who want to be smug about their rare retarded hats. I know some people will disagree with me on that last point so here is my challenge to Valve: Come out with a hat that is a piece of shit and name it "The Retarded Asshole's Hat" and only give out 20 of them randomly to the community. See how many people will wear it. I bet that everyone who found it will use it just because it's unique and rare. Maybe they could come out with some even wackier variants, such as the Towering Pillar Of Retarded Asshole Hats.
I did not think it was possible to make Holy Hand Grenades unappealing. Learn something new every day.
True, they look quite terrible.
The models look like something a first-day modeler would make as a practice job.
I think someone said this before, but I wonder if Valve will add a button of some sort that makes the game event hats and what not invisible or something.
I think someone said this before, but I wonder if Valve will add a button of some sort that makes the game event hats and what not invisible or something.
Why would they?
I need dat parasite :[
I was lucky enough to have someone I'd gotten the earbuds as a favor get the parasite for me in return. But yeah I really wish more games would be released for Mac
everything that was added in and after the Big Hat update looks retarded, with some exceptions (like the mining light, and all those other hats that actually fit the personality of the character wearing them). this shit is Not Canon.
You're complaining about Canon with a game set in the 90s and they can go invisible and build automated sentry guns. :downs:
You're complaining about Canon with a game set in the 90s and they can go invisible and build automated sentry guns. :downs:
I thought the game was set in the 1950s. Edit: Nevermind, 1960s.
Their latest comic wasn't titled Loose Canon for nothing.
You're complaining about Canon with a game set in the 90s and they can go invisible and build automated sentry guns. :downs:
It's set in 1950 to late 1960 with the latest known date recorded in the game being the 1968 catalog sometimes seen in spawnrooms. If my memeory does not fail me, one such catalog can be seen in the Well spawn rooms. The whole theme is 50's and 60's action and spy movies but with a comical theme. With examples such as retro-futuristic technology such as the medigun, the sentries, and many other weapons. The references to old Spy movies is also very apparent with all the maps revolving around hidden spybases, and Spy's usage of bond like spygadgets like the invisibility watch and sapper. Another reference to old Spy and action movies, as well as to enhance the game's comical nature, is TF2's usage of stereotypes. Such as for example the dimwitted and big Russian, the very stylish and sophisticated Spy, the Medic (who's personality is undoubtedly based on the stereotype of the German Gestapo), the outback Hunter Australian... the list goes on. [editline]03:07PM[/editline] So yes, I do think they're ruining the game a bit with a lot of the things they're adding. I still love the game, but I don't think it's as unique as it used to be. While new items and hats keeps the game interesting, they sometimes detract from the original beauty of the game, and makes the game a lot more complex. The character's roles are becoming more diverse and less unique, and the game is becoming increasingly harder for new people to get into.
As long as I can distinguish the red team from the blue team, I don't give a fuck about hats, they can add as many as they want as long as it doesn't affect gameplay.
The Holy Hand Grenades look like a glitch to be honest, I think they're supposed to have Phong shading at the moment it just has an envcubemap which looks awful on a model that uses single colors with no detail.
well this will be our last good blog post for a while
