So many stupid comments in that Joystiq article.
Nah, that just divides the community. If you want a challenging game I suggest you to try out www.tf2lobby.com.
I see what you mean there. At the very least though, there should be some sort of environment where new players and old players can get together, but after a certain point separate. There needs to be co-mingling, but the new players still need some kind of ground where they can play against others at an equal level. And the old players should be able to have a non-competitive environment to play the game with equally leveled players. Not necessarily both of these ideas concretely, but some kind of abstract ability like the tf2f2p premium mod. tf2lobby does have some good games, but it depends. I hang out at places like the weeabootique, which, all elitism aside, I've found to have a very challenging crowd of players compared to a lot of servers. A good chunk of regulars play amateur comp too.
Baker says he's even received death threats about the mod, but given that this is a game about shooting, stabbing and generally blowing other players up, who knows how serious those are.
Wow. Free players are sending him death threats? That's just a whole new level of butthurt. For five MEASLY dollars you could get like 5 of the Starter packs (That's FIVE hats and 15 weapons, people!) AND it will make you go premium. Anyone that gets this mad over it, and I hate to say it, is probably an underage kid that shouldn't be playing it in the first place. Or a basement dwelling neckbeard that can't get access to his mother's credit card.
For five MEASLY dollars you could get like 5 of the Starter packs (That's FIVE hats and 15 weapons, people!) AND it will make you go premium.
Just so we are clear on this, that's five hats and 10-11 weapons (depending on if you count the Scout pack or not) that aren't tradable or craftable. I wanted to point this out because you made it sound like there aren't any drawbacks.
Oh come on, death threats? That's pretty fucked up if it's true. But it's true some of the F2P players are horribly bad at the game, I don't think I was nearly as bad as they are when I first played the game. I mean, I even watched tutorials on youtube and read guides and stuff. I knew everything about the game really early and used to play spy all the time, back when noone checked their backs. But sometimes it's ridiculous how bad some players with over 2000 hours of playtime are. I hate when they're calling the newer players noobs when they are actually still horrible at the game despite having spent so much time playing it.
But thats a nice deal, as you get the premium version of TF2.
Just purchasing a small thing for unlocking the rest of the game is a really nice deal I know. I just... don't want people making the same mistake as I have...
Who can blame him, some of the new players are god awful. Find any hightower server with at least 1/4 of the server being F2P / new players, go spy and get about 100 kills and 2-3 deaths. They'll just walk into you and ignore you or see you cloak and assume that you are no longer there.
i heard that buying tf2 made you instantly god at the game
Idlers.
Even worse And even if they've been idling for 1000 hours they still suck
First the guy paying $1500 for a unusual, now this. It's like TF2 community can't stop scaring me.
If you buy a hat you are a complete udder retard
After reading that thread on SPUF I have to say that some people REALLY overreacts, seriously, just because the guy joined three different servers with that plugin isn't a reason to complain and say stuff like "STEAM SHOULD BAN THAT PLUGIn, THEY'RE THE OWNERS OF TF2!!1111" there are thousands of servers, something that I've considered alarming a few months ago was the amount of lotusclan/saigns.de/nightteam/etc servers (around 100 on my blacklist) But i never complained and started to look for servers without shitty plugins
SPUF is full of morons.
They should open up a mandatory training for F2P'ers, like the America's Army games.
Death threats seriously? When I hear that I think of a little kid screaming into his mic saying: "wtf you fag im gonna go to ur house and kil u 4 ur gay mod that dosent let me play!!11!!"
You can't expect new players to instantly know the dynamics of the game. They won't be able to make airshots, they won't be able to take out enemies systematically, they won't be able to get a positive K/D ratio. Just give them a little time developing their gameplay skills and in the end we'll have a much richer community in TF2.
PFFT, oh please i been playing for two years and still havent gotten the timing on my airshots right.
Idlers.
Or traders.
Because there aren't premium players who are bad at the game. All of the bad players must be free players! :downs:
Because there aren't premium players who are bad at the game. All of the bad players must be free players! :downs:
Of course there are bad premium players, but there's a hell of a lot more bad F2P players.
And joystiq are once again reporting on something that doesn't resemble news in the slightest. Good on y', games journalism.
And joystiq are once again reporting on something that doesn't resemble news in the slightest. Good on y', games journalism.
How is this not news.
How is this not news.
"We read what's been reiterated in forum posts several times about the creator of the "F2BK" server mod's stance on TF2 going free-to-play" How is this news? [editline];[/editline] Hell, it's akin to that article in 2004 about how a furry artist painted his GBASP.
How is this not news.
Everyone knew it was going to happen.
I still don't understant why people keep calling that a mod, is a DAMN PLUGIN Also I'm curious of how many servers uses it.
So the reasoning is it keeps F2P hackers out, but almost all of the complaining I've seen is about n00b players who aren't already good at it. I mean, I'm still not for banning a community plugin, I'm just concerned that if too many people start pushing free players away they'll all just stop playing and we'll all look like assholes.
And servers full of russians.
I find that very offensive :frog: [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Anyway, I personally think this should be exclusive to the trade servers, since those ones a very much effected by the F2Pers. The F2Pers will eventually learn how to play better, and the truly bad ones will filter out over time. The "I pyed 4 tf2 the f2pers r fagts." elitists should really STFU. The TF2 community will only have to deal with the noobs for a short time, and hell, most of the people who are good at TF2 were at one point as bad (or worse) as the current day F2Pers.
most of the people who are good at TF2 were at one point as bad (or worse) as the current day F2Pers.
That was a joke right? Because I wasn't even remotely as terrible as most of these F2P players.
Yeah I had someone teabag my "dead" body. That pissed me off a lot.
Now that's a great idea for a plugin. Crouch over a ragdoll 3 times in a row and you blow up!
Now that's a great idea for a plugin. Crouch over a ragdoll 3 times in a row and you blow up!
DO IT. I'm serious. And make it so that the player who they're teabagging gets credit for the kill. Imagine how the F2P players would react: "AH WTF YOU HACKER YOU BLEW ME UP!"
I've seen a F2P sniper trying to shoot through the bullet proof glass today, I told him that he cant shoot through it and he said thanks. I agree that there are steps that needs to be taken against those who abuse the F2P system, but those who don't are just looking for a game to play and have fun. Valve really gotta do something about the abusers, otherwise any popular server will run this mod eventually for sure.
