Or it could be viewed as the only way Kritzkast can reward long time listeners of the show without having to spend loads of money by giving them something that they could show off to their friends. It's not their fault that is was badly timed. If anything, it's Valve's fault for giving them the go ahead to do all this so close to a big update.

but kritzkast only advertised it to the people who it IS big news for, IE listeners of episode 120 and on the kritzkast forums. you still think they should feel bad considering they never intended for people to automatically jump to conclusions and get their hopes up? i'm going to go ahead and quote this from the other thread

Yes, maybe KritzKast could have done more to stop people building their hopes up so much but it was ALL powered by dumb speculation on the part of some TF2 members. It wasn't more than 10 minutes after the hat page was up on the wiki before someone edited in saying that you get it for listening to the next episode. This was absolute speculation on someones part but someone else took that as fact and spread that rumour.
The KritzKast 'big' countdown was only announced to members on the podcast and a few related forums where there are a large amount of fans. NOT on the spuf, facepunch or anywhere else. It was only ever intended for fans, the countdown page even said that! Due to unfortunate timing where people were expecting an update but this hat was included in the game files, people assumed this was something important, found the countdown and made the assumption this was something bigger than rewarding KK fans.
Regarding MtM, it was bad timing. The KritzKast event was planned for this date for a while. It's bad timing that the doves were released in the week of the countdown but trust me, nobody at KritzKast was ever aware that valve were going to do their stuff around this date too. After personally having threats about hacking my server, the KK servers and the pure hatred shown towards us I feel is totally undeserved, KK never ever ever intended for it to get that much attention and it's disappointing that so many people tuned in with false expectations. Rage all you want at me or the KK guys, as long as you know none of it was intended with any malice or intention to annoy you guys.[/QUOTE]
It was just bad timing, and no offense to them but I really doubt they'd have kritz unceremoniously release MtM for them.
The doves are there for a reason, if MtM is going to come out it's going to have us doing somthing with these doves.
I guarantee Meet the Medic will be released when no one suspects

This is Valve fans we're dealing with, you accidentally say the same thing twice or have anything that's even minutely related to a Valve game mentioning news, it's either Episode 3 or a big TF2 update. They could have at the very least just said, "Yeah it isn't Meet the Medic but still come on in and listen :)".
I agree that the excecution was pretty bad, the wording made it sound like so much more than just a hat was coming. And its pretty amazing how nobody i see in normal servers uses the Wiki or checks up on TF2 news, yet have all these items and clans. It was annoying with people asking me where to get the hat.

Man, I actually saw a big "theory" post about this on GameFAQs.
It'd start off with a "Medic is missing" blog post and update. The medic would simply be removed from TF2 - a cvar would re-enable him, but vanilla would be no medic. Then, there'd be a series of blogposts about trying to find the medic. It'd then all end with either A. Medic being found and you're meeting the medic. Or B. A new medic replacement. All hats and weapons fit him, but there's a new set of weapons he's bringing to the table. Why don't you take the time to meet the new medic?
