It made sense for CSS because the game itself was 1GB TF2 is 2GB with 6GB of content added over time, there's no way the average player would spend double the gigs Then again im living on POS comps that can bareley run quake over 120 fps let alone tf2 so how should I know what the average person's hard drive is
120 FPS is rather good.
normal computers these days can run it at 200+ fps and have to cap their max fps to 120 dipping down from 70-100 fps isn't that great for quake

And they will probably make it so that it runs off of the existing TF2 content.
Just want to drop a message in this thread to kinda thank OP for dropping in the link to our live channel. We're not as good as we should be when it comes to self publicing. The skinny on this, I'm thinking I've already already dropped on the steam forum thread pretty well but nothing like a bit of copy pasta. PC Gamer has announced Valve's plans to create a new Open Beta at some time in the future. Had they been able to tell you it was happening this week we'd not be calling "exclusive" on this news.
we’re probably going to gear up the TF2 public beta again soon
Friendly Fire had a number of mentions of larger beta than the initial Pro-Beta but this is the most concise
Something we're working on right now is getting the TF2 beta up and running again, with a much larger audience,
As it stood they were both quite vague about the actuality of its release time. Of course, the path to true Steam rarely runs smooth. As sure as we are that Valve intends to release the Open Beta this week we're aware that there's also a possibility that something may come up. Having spoken to Tempest, about what was said during the podcast, he was reluctant to say that it was coming out this week as we'd look pretty bloody stupid if it was delayed till the week after. Still, I've made a personal assessment of our source and I'm happy to regard this information as 100% reliable at the time that we acquired it.
And they will probably make it so that it runs off of the existing TF2 content.
Unlikely as it'll probably modify the content alot.
It made sense for CSS because the game itself was 1GB TF2 is 2GB with 6GB of content added over time, there's no way the average player would spend double the gigs Then again im living on POS comps that can bareley run quake over 120 fps let alone tf2 so how should I know what the average person's hard drive is
They could limit the beta to new gamemodes/maps/weapons, so it would be lighter.
Maybe if we are lucky we will get to keep some stuff
People here act like the beta is gonna be testing new weapons. It's not. It's to test how players would fare under different conditions (melee only, 10 HP, 10,000HP, etc.)
That's really cool too
OMG valve OP! valve plz nref!!!11!1! cuz dey make changes to da gaem 'n' siht!
OMG valve OP! valve plz nref!!!11!1!
Stopped being funny ages ago.
An average HDD is 100-200GB for a prebuilt and 1TB-5TB for someone who builds their own comp and wants loads of space.
My pre-build has 1TB HDD
Then it's not an average build. Ffff.
Then it's not an average build. Ffff.
Mine's an average build, it has 1TB too.
Valve need to stop listening to competitive idiots and pay attention to normal players (of which there are far more) Hopefully they will start doing this in the open beta
I am not certain why there is so much competitive player bashing on Facepunch, but in all honesty if anything they are the best people to test the weapons due to them having the largest amount of experience and actual understanding of the game balance instead of being blind fragging machines in 32 pub servers which run around in the company of other blind fragging machines of the same color. While I have nothing against any type of TF2 player, usually by default even a crappy competitive player has a better understanding of the game then your average pub player. I am just trying to say the Open Beta should be considerate of all sides of the community, and that is precisely what such events are usually created for. "Not listening" to a certain group or side of a game community is simply not a good idea for a hilariously large amount of reasons, especially in this case. In theory this event will achieve the eventual global satisfaction in TF2 new content wise, it was a generally excellent measure to prevent various community conflicts which appeared in the past. This measure does not completely eliminate the possibility of a conflict, but it certainly does lower it down by a considerable amount.
Mine's an average build, it has a 140 GB HD and a 3 GB recovery HD. It's from 2005, though, and was bottom of the line back then. And overpriced, on Black Friday. I hate HP. Edit: Aimed at posts above the one above this one.
And overpriced, on Black Friday. I hate HP.
Mine was a HP and it cost £1000, and the hardware is too weak for today's TF2 I guess HP just threw random hardware into it and slapped on a sticker saying "GAMING COMPUTER"
I am not certain why there is so much competitive player bashing on Facepunch, but in all honesty if anything they are the best people to test the weapons due to them having the largest amount of experience and actual understanding of the game balance
Agreed. Comp players do have the best understanding of comp play. Sadly though this tends to blind them to pub play. The original post-release beta allowed comp players a chance to change and tweek the game to allow comp players to make better use of the comp classes. Here's hoping that the fully open Beta (to owners of TF2) will improve the gaming experience for pub players in pub games and comp players in comp games.
if theres such a thing a 1TB of RAM i would scream bullets
There is way more, like 100 TB+
There is way more, like 100 TB+
I'm not seeing this happening on a personal computer. Super computer, yes. Personal computer, fuck no. Not unless you count Bill Gates' house as a personal computer.
this can make the game better o make it worse, I hope the beta get some good thinks like game modes and weapons
I hope the beta get some good things like game modes and different weapon stats
Fix'd They will most likely not give us test weapons, well absolutely not Polycount, as that is part of a major update that they want us to suprise us with, instead of announcing test weapons that will probably end up sucking
Fix'd They will most likely not give us test weapons, well absolutely not Polycount, as that is part of a major update that they want us to suprise us with, instead of announcing test weapons that will probably end up sucking
The P.D.Q. didn't suck, it's in-game and was released in a major update.

The previous closed beta brought about a lot of great weapon changes, like the syringe gun/Blutsauger health regen changes, the throwable Sandvich, and the PDQ's concept, which ultimately led to the set of Engineer weapons we have now.

Naaah, it's fine. You make up the regen rate by killing people.. unless you don't kill people, then you should stick to the syringe gun. Also yes, the Gunslinger is a better version of the PDQ.
