With rip off trading, you are offering and it's their choice whether they accept or not.
With scamming, you're basically stealing. Especially with quick-switching, imagine how the other person feels.
In rip-off trading, you're still lying. You're pretending, say, 3 normal weapons is a worthy trade equivalent to an unusual milkman.
Not really. I'm not telling the person his hat is worth -cheap ass amount-. I mean, I have scammed 4 unusuals so far. I told not a one that there hat is worth shit. I offered stuff they wanted. That's how I raked em in.
First of all, chill out. Your avatar is probably how you look right now in real life. Secondly, why is this thread called rip-off trading if there's no "set value" to the items being traded? Why not just rename the thread to "completely legitimate" trades then? Both sides agreed after all.
Wow, more like you are my avatar. In case you can't read, I never said there was no set value. I only said that the way this economy should be is that the person wanting the item should value the item depending on how much he likes it. Not how much some random person says it is. That's how trading works, you find someone with an item you want and if you have an item they want, then its a trade, doesn't matter how much its worth. One mans trash is another mans treasure. That's exactly how we play it here.
The ONLY way this profits us is because people seem to think that everything should have a set value when it SHOULDN'T and then we make profit because they are idiots.
Go tell someone their unusual is worth 5 earbuds. What does that mean to them? Woo I can get a bunch of the same thing? And there are no set values. Everything is what someone will pay for it. This is no place where there is a store that sells things at a certain price with people having no choice about what they pay for it. If anything the system we have in real life is wrong.
I could have got a beams tossle for 1.5, but he was so nice i told him the value.
what people need to realise is the major difference, both parties agree to what item they want. if somebody has an unusual and says "Oh, i really need the black box" then you offer it and both sides are happy with going through with the trade, then it's fine. sure, it doesn't make it 100% better than doing a fair trade, but both guys are happy so in retrospect, it's fair. alas, "ripping off"
scamming is a complete different subject. if you promise to trade an item with the other party and they are happy then suddenly "quick-switch" for something they didn't want and not giving them the choice, then how is that in anyway the same as "ripping off" or fair at all?

There is no set value at all you dipshit. If the person wants the weapons then let him have the weapons because he obviously values the weapons better than a hat he never uses.
Right, but in the fact that you leave out the value your are scamming them
If you went to a town that had a gold mine and went up to a person who has virtually nothing except a large ball of gold and said "Hey, I got some food here wanna trade?" He eagerly looks at you and says "sure do you need anything?" You being the modest person you are point to his gold ball and say"I guess that'll do" Everyone is happy now :D The poor guy gets to eat one meal and the rich guy can sale the ball of gold and make a couple thousand dollars.

I know you're trying to pull a zinger here, and that's cute and all, but he's trying to place rip-off trading on the same level as scamming, not trying to discourage rip-off trading entirely.

Omega322 went to a town that had a gold mine, and went up to a person who has virtually nothing except a large ball of gold, omega322 said "Hey, I have a ball of gold too, wanna trade?". He looks eagerly and says "sure". Omega gets a ball of coal and gives it to him without him noticing, and runs off screaming like a school girl. The poor guy gets a piece of shit, and the rich guy can sale the ball for a little profit.
If you have to tell them fake values to rip-off someone, then you're doing it wrong.
I, my self, never insulted someone due to their lack of knowledge, instead, some of my victims have gotten a place on my friend-list
Suttles went to a town that had a gold mine, and went up to a person who has virtually nothing except a small ball of gold. Suttles said, "Hey, I have a large bronze ball, wanna trade?" He looks eagerly, and, unaware that his gold was far more valuable than Suttles' large bronze ball, says "sure." The poor man, now with only a large bronze ball, was happy, yet ignorant to the foolish trade he had just made. Suttles, a now-rich man with a small ball of gold went home and got on his computer, where he bragged about his rip-off trade on Facepunch and attempted to rationalize how entirely different it is from scamming.

Yet you are dumb, because you just proved that scamming is different from ripping off with this story.
In this case, the man was COMPLETELY AWARE that it was a bronze ball.
In omega's case, he knew that he would have gotten a GOLDEN ball, not a COAL ball.
You even do bad at analogies

You must have an odd definition of a scam.
Verb 1. scam - deprive of by deceit
The deceit is not confessing the true value of what the other person is trading.

i dont rip off any more.
Its more like.
Suttles went to a town that had a gold mine, and went up to a person who has virtually nothing exept a small ball of gold. Suttles said "Here, take my large bronze ball, this house, and all my clothes." He looks eagerly and says "Really?". Suttles said yes and gave him alot of free shit. Suttles, now a little poorer , and the other guy a little richer were both happy.

We rip off people because they want what do we give them, not because they want it because of their value.
Why do you keep failing to understand this

I've been checking out your posting history, Owner. It seems that for the past few months all you have been doing is either lingering around the Free Hats and Items thread or annoying everybody in every thread you enter in one fell swoop. I, personally, think you're either a troll or you're looking for attention.

Please calm down. The comments on my page are from me rating people dumb that I legitimately thought had posted something stupid, and them getting upset in response.
*Facepalm*
Your missing the point, I just posted in a scamming thread saying I scammed someone, and people are getting mad, even though said people have done MUCH worse.
I know I'm scamming people, we all are, it isn't a secret.
This
-End of arguement-
Stop complaining about the Diff between scamming and rip-offing and play the game.
Also stop acting like I'm gonna give a fuck about being banned from some communities I had no interest in trading with.
Dude, fucking read. If you want money: A scammer tag doesn't help.
So you are FUCKED. Good luck getting money tf2 items.

Are you trying to help my argument? The "trick" of rip-off trading is not revealing the value of the item you're trading for to the other person.
