Ok so I fail to understand how this is pissing people off so much. I can understand some minor frustrations, but you've been able to play the game for much longer than everyone else. Now that more people can play this game you guys get pissed? Holy shit it's an amazing game and now it's fucking free. I can understand people that spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on monthly subscriptions for a MMO, but jesus at most you spent $50 of initial cost for this game with the Orange Box.
This is the same thing as a massive sale. Ok so someone can get a premium account if they buy a $.50 item in the store. What difference would it have been if Valve decided to have a sale on the game for $.50? Do you get angry every time someone buys the game when it goes on sale because they didn't have to pay as much as you did? How about when the game gets a permanent price adjustment? I've been able to play this game for 4 years now. I'm not angry because the money I spent 4 years ago has been so worth it. I would even understand anger if you bought the game a few months ago and this happens, but jesus quit crying over Valve's decision to let people play their game for free. It's an amazing thing that's rarely done in videogaming.
The thing is that people who have paid those 4 years ago who all contributed even in the slightest to make TF2 what it is today don't even get premium accounts. The fact of the matter is that people paid money at some point for this game. Whether or not we played it for four years really doesn't count right now. What about other people who bought it yesterday? Or even at all this week because they wanted to be there before the update?
stop, nobody should get something extra for buying a game earlier at a higher price
it's like saying "hey DICE, give me a free game because bc2 is now $30 cheaper than when I bought it"
and I will keep using this argument until you finally understand it
There is a difference between lower the price of a game from it's original price tag, and making a game that was at $50 or $20 and making it, completely free. There is A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Yay gonna install
tf2 is now pretty much just $5 usd, Since Steam does not let you deposit any less in to the steam wallet.
If you bought the Orange Box when it released, you paid $10 for TF2.
If you bought TF2 stand-alone off Steam on release, you payed $20.

This is what i've been trying to explain to this dickhead, but he can't get it through his thick skull.

what's the difference? elaborate.

It doesn't matter about the amount of money, it's the fact that we paid to have unlimited access to this game.
For you guys worried about the F2P Cheaters, look at the FAQ.
You're daft, they can just change their ip.
Whats with the TF2 update hate?
You are all so self-entitled.
Installing Beta so I'll have a safe haven from the 8 year olds and hackers and Brazilians.

Oh so valves gonna stand over every hackers shoulder and "measure and track what these players are doing, and respond quickly"? LMFAO. Maybe they should focus more on improving VAC rather than coming up with some ridiculous plan to track every single hacker (which they'll never do).

Every update in TF2 has had so much hate, where have you been?
In time, most of us will get used to this like the Mann Co. store.
The only real issue I have with this is item hoarding, but them assholes will do what they do I suppose.
My main server's admins are gonna have a load of fun dealing with the flow of new players.

They said they built systems that allow them to do so, so maybe it's been implemented into VAC.
After reading up everything and calming down, I don't think this will be the 'end of the world' scenario.
But I'm still worried about all this, it just seems way too abuse-able.
I don't understand what the problem is. Team Fortress 2 goes free, so what? This won't effect anyone who doesn't already have the game (and these days, with how cheap Team Fortress 2 was, who doesn't?) This is a good marketing strategy for Valve. People buy hats and packs all the time in the Mann Co. store if they are impatient to craft, etc. People want to name their weapons and give them "clever" descriptions.
If you are smart, you don't care about it going Free to Play. Nobody knows if the game is going to bring in "BR's" or hackers and what not (as if we didn't have hackers already, right guys?) Chill and wait it out. Nothing bad is going to happen.
I'm ok with this, I don't even play TF2 much anymore and nowadays the price of the game already is pretty low plus the fact the Mann Co. Store already makes it feel like a f2p game

Welcome to the bitchiest of Valve's hardcore fans, who complain whenever Valve does anything to appeal to another audience or not cater specifically to their expectations.
ex: "wow i cant believe valve is making dota 2 nobody cares give me episode 3!!!" (that's really what you guys sound like) despite the fact that dota and online competitive arena games have a huge audience and, yes, people do care.
Unfortunately, checking the sets, they want you to purchase items now.
For fuck's sake, the Spy set requires the Misc and the hat. Are you kidding me.
So...can I have my money back now?

This entire thread is a shit throwing fest between people who love Valve to death and people who hate everything Valve is doing.
Its quite funny seeing people trying to trade the new weapons for unusuals

Then don't purchase it now.
"Woo, I paid $20 for this game but who cares that anybody can play it for free! I still got virtual gameplay out of it! That's totally worth actual monetary value!"
I'd like my fucking money back, or ATLEAST a free game, like TFC or Half life 2.
So...can I have my money back now?
I doubt Valve is going to spend millions of dollars on refunding players who feel unsatisfied with their (legal) decision.
At least give me some store credit or something.
I've never seen so many boxes in a thread with 10 pages.
