Here's a solution I'm just throwing out there: Premium TF2 users get lower crafting costs, higher drop rates, lower Mann Co Store costs, and/or usually pay-only Mann Co items through drops.

I'm pretty sure it's simple logic that if you paid for something, and then all of a sudden it's magically free, that those who paid deserve something. I didn't think people actually thought it was okay for Valve to just not care about those who previously paid. I paid for a game which was required to be paid for in order to play it. Valve held up their end of the deal for a bit, then made it so it wasn't even a bargain and it was a free giveaway.
But premium players get THREE HUNDRED SLOTS! expandable up to a THOUSAND. Free players only get 50 so Suck them nuts freebies

Ok, I guess having a "premium" account makes it a little better, still doesn't change the fact that this "premium" account is the same as a regular account back when it was a paid game. What I mean by that is that not much has even changed. I would've at least accepted like a less than giant pack of new weapons or something.

All of a sudden, four years later.
I bought this game last Christmas and I'm fine with not getting any money back. It was money well spent.

Here's my incomprehensible two cents on this whole thing.
Like I've said before, I'm fairly confident that Valve will handle the issue of increased amounts of griefers/cheaters pretty well, and they seem to have done enough with the "Premium" thing to make me still feel alright that I purchased TF2 back when it still had a price tag on it. My only real worry is that, while the TF2 community already had quite a few bad apples in it, this change could attract a lot more egotistical kids that can't buy games themselves, therefore searching for free shooters or whatever on Google all the time.
Although, as the only real reference I have, APB went F2P, but it still has generally the same community with just a sprinkling of the aforementioned kids, even if the core community is shit in and of itself. So I suppose time will tell if this was a good decision on Valve's part.
