No, that's fucking stupid. In my 4 years of TF2 I have seen 1 hacker. I'm currently locked out of my normal tf2 account, so I made a new one and started TF2 on a free account and wow. Three of the four servers I connected to had hackers. Big change.

No, I don't give a shit about free players. More cannon fodder and people I can help/teach. I care about speedhacking heavies and snipers who headshot as soon as your hand is visible.

To be fair, with the amount of weapons in the game it's pretty difficult to maintain a perfect balance.

3 24 players servers. That is 61 other people who had to play with hackers. It's not just me. Look at steam forums, people are whining about hackers there to.
I'm mostly concerned about them raising the crafting requirements to the absurd levels that they did for this update in order to encourage use of the store.

Quite a few could just be friendly people who didn't feel like buying TF2 before, so they see it's free and decide to give it a try, but could be turned off now by how many people are pissing their panties at "OMGNOOBKIDDIEF2P'RBAAAW"
Hackers and crap will get dealt with, spastic kiddies who can't comprehend simple things will get mad and quit, but we'll also get players that like the game and stick with it.
