Come on, it's massive. You'd barely be able to see over it.
Make it slightly smaller.
Then you look at the current Muzzleflash, it's pretty big as well.
I so want it back too, if viewmodels didn't get messed up when decompiled I'd hack it in that way
Yeah, the muzzleflash effects are sprites (2D). I think the beta muzzleflash was actually an extension of the minigun model rather than a sprite.
No, it's its own model. It's still completely intact in the GCF, just removed from the game by Valve's tried and true lazy method: removing the script for it.
As for distraction, it's not really. Valve only said that it cluttered the view. The current one is a blurry flash, so you don't focus on it and it keeps it from directly obscuring view of other things by being a blur instead of a solid object.
Doesn't mean we don't want it now that we're experienced players. :)
I'm sorry Shugo, but that last line really did confuse me
I'm sorry Shugo, but that last line really did confuse me
People are saying that it's a distraction. I'm saying that since we are experienced players (the game is almost a year and a half old now; it's safe to say that we all know about every inch of it), we would be able to handle the distraction.
Sorry if my words sound weird; I'm on an iPod while listening to a lecture, so sometimes I type incoherently.
I'm SO going to replace it with the flamethrower effect
Either that or the medigun effect. That would be just fucking amazing. If you think you have any clue on how to do that, psot it here or PM me, I have a friend who, if I ask, may run his cheats-on server. Numerous plugins, including something similar to the old version of crouchjump, and the ability for admins (me and him) to give people weapons of other classes. We'll try it out on his server and post screens. Also, if anyone would tell me where to get a model/particle editor for TF2, I'll fuck around with it for a bit. I have a 1gig flashdrive, so I can make backups.
I think TF2 has a built in particle editor.
Put -tools in the launch options.
Then cry when you realize you have no goddamn idea what your doing with said editor.
Alright, thanks. Also, my computer doesn't like the idea of being replaced, since my new motherboard is getting here by the weekend because the one I got originally was broken. Then my new computer just needs ALL MY SOFTWARE ON IT, which is going to take FOREVER. Unless... I could just put this drive in to copy shit over. But as it is I can't actually run anything more then a well-made flash game. I can't even run facewound because although it is 2D, it uses 3d acceleration. But I'm bored, so I'll just- *squeezes computer* give my computer some encouragement and try it.
has anyone got a picture of the beta mussle flash?
Check out Meet the Heavy.

I do enjoy me some TF2 before updates.
The file path for the model, if anyone cares, is:
models\effects\muzzleflash\minigunmuzzle

Don't forget that the smaller sentry muzzle flash is still in there, too.
The trailer shows that other weapons like the Shotgun also used them, so it'd be cool to see those, too...
Hmm, nice idea for a perfect project on the first night before the term break.
So what, you can include models in a particle effect, as far as I know. But someone will have to do it, I've never used the particle editor, but it shouldn't be so hard, all it does is stay there and spin.
You can't, these are all just particles textured with textures with a special VTF switch.
Actually, I'm better off just trying to find a copy of the TF2 beta GCFs.
Actually, I'm better off just trying to find a copy of the TF2 beta GCFs.
I already tried that myself many times. It's far too late unless you find somebody else who kept them for some reason. :(

My internet's crap, so I can't download them. AFAIK you can't even run the game from these GCFs properly, the only thing you can do is extract them.

I think I have the required expertise.
Actually no, like said previously, the muzzleflash is a model, not a particle effect, there's nothing the ingame editor can do. All particles are sprites.

Those are some nice roses right there.
They do smell nice.
Like wayward potassium chlorite.

Holy shit, I've been searching for these FOREVER. These are most definitely the earliest TF2 GCFs ever. Sucks that they're on Rapidshare in parts (the torrent for them is long gone), but I'll get it eventually. It even has the original low violence GCF, which I'd been trying to find ever since I knew there was a low violence mode...but I don't need that version anymore, haha.
Well, with any luck I might be able to find out what makes the original muzzleflash tick with this. Also, public beta TF2! I'm so going to LAN this up. It's been ages since I saw original 2fort or Dustbowl. A real man could traverse the powerup-less basements of 2fort as a Spy and rack up backstabs like nothing.
Those were the days...
Actually, turns out that you CAN run them as long has you use a crack for Steam that doesn't rely on subscription patching.
