Could work, but it'll be a cone while the model is a bit spikey.
What if you made sprites, but just make them solid colors?
Rough example:

I can see it now... you'd get a particle effect with about 20 effing child particle systems hacked on. Seems expensive if you want to replicate the beta's spikey muzzleflash.
Needs to be more spikey
has anyone done this yet?
Someone made something similar for Half-Life 2, does anyone know how to get it working for Team Fortress 2?

Note the "Spy - uncloak and dagger" (Cloak & Dagger) and pyro has male voice.
I really want that animation for pulling out the knife, I don't care if it takes longer.
You can make a custom .vtf and make it tf2 beta style then just change the emitter particle effect.

Those are sprites, yellow stars.

God damn, TF2 used to be epic. Scout Nailgun and the non-sticky remote grenades. And the TNT. AND THE MUZZLE FLASHES D:
Oh god you revived my thread :ughh:

We DEMAND an update!
:ughh:
Hopefully the Demoman Class updates has that TNT weapon.

Agreed, I liked the style so much more when TF2 looked like that.
I would love ALL of the muzzleflashes, not just the Heavy's.
They look really good on the sentry, also lol @ the beta level 1 sentry. It needed a nerf bad.

Looked like scum :[
Old TF2 is awesome, but not as kickass looking as the current. And I love having something cool to look at while playing any kind of game.
<Snip>
FFS, this happens when having 2 FP tabs at once.
On a semi-related note; are there any good replacement muzzleflashes for TF2?
This is inside the weapondata:
// Muzzleflash
"MuzzleFlashParticleEffect" "muzzle_minigun"
Maybe you can replace muzzle_minigun in the ctx by the path of the model.
Enjoy your VAC

It is.

no you're wrong
You can make a custom .vtf and make it tf2 beta style then just change the emitter particle effect.
And where can I find this particle effect?

MIRV and smaller and faster grenade firing grenade launcher with more grenades/clip would be awesome.
MIRV might actually make a good sticky launcher replacement. Less sticky spam and would have a wider skill curve, because you couldn't just camp doorways then.

The MIRV didn't remote-detonate, though. The Demoman's old remote-detonation weapon was actually the Pipebomb Launcher (or Grenade Launcher today). It worked just like Stickybombs except they didn't stick to anything and rolled around on the ground. The MIRV was detonated on a short timer of a few seconds; you'd throw it, let it sit for a few, then it makes an initial explosion, after which there were several smaller explosions. This was both impractical and overpowered (imagine having this thrown into an Engineer nest), and thus it was removed and replaced with the time/contact-detonated Grenade Launcher.
I preferred the old muzzle flash. After watching the old trailers, it made me think about it. The current one just looks bad compared to the old one. It looks like someone with GMod has gotten the AK47 muzzle flash emitter and put 5 right next to each other. It would be nicer to have a more cartoony effect.
They took it out because they wanted people to focus on the world as opposed to the guns
it was too distracting

use gcfscape, open tf2, go to particles, find muzzle_flash.pcf. move it to tf2 folder on your account and edit in-game with -tools launch option.
