Well, it's less doable when the one who took out your buildings is, say, an Overhealed heavy/demo/Soldier, which tends to be what destroys a farm a lot of the time. Besides, good Engineers can defend their farms well enough as is. They can't really do anything against an Ubercharge, and Spies are easy enough to take out with the current weapons, right?
If it's an overhealed Heavy, Demoman, or Soldier, then my idea actually makes it easier to deal with those classes. A shotgun crit does 180 damage and it's random. My Boomstick is more powerful than the shotgun damage-wise and allows you to deal a guaranteed crit. I wouldn't even have a problem with it doing ~100 natural damage at point blank and 300 crit damage given the several second reload time.
Also, I can't help but feel your "good Engineers" comment is a little backhanded. Regardless, there are times when you simply can't defend your farm, so my Boomstick pretty much gives the Engie a last-ditch chance to retaliate at the person for destroying his stuff. Moreover, it serves as a hefty deterrent for would-be sentry-attackers, meaning they'd better have an escape plan or at least be able to dodge a incoming blast of (mini)critical buckshot.
Lastly, I can guarantee you that the Engineer is not going to get anything that counters Ubers. It would just unbalance things horribly.
