you gotta check back quite often if the server hasn't shut down, stuff like that
Why would you want to launch the game and not play it?
physician's procedure mask is awesome :D
Just got Pain train, Chocolate bar, and Homewrecker this way..not bad.
How do you disconect from the server? Press the X, then load up your game and die to see what you got?

Pretty much, it's what I do.
Easier alternative:
Look at your backpack (http://www.tf2items.com) and look where it says "The following items were found but not yet placed in the backpack." If that's not there then you didn't get anything. Otherwise, if you want, you can go in-game, die, and cherish your new items.
If you use this, aren't you just hangin arround in the menu of the server? Because you cant join a team or a class, right?

Oh Sweet I'm gonna get the Gunboats

When you join a server, you're automatically put into Spectator Mode until you join an actual team. And even Spectators get items.
Oh ok, thanks.
Does it matter if my textmode window is open or not?
Well, Chocolate bar + medic overheal = 500 hp
Sniper's fully charged headshot = 450 Hp
Wrong. Because Chocolate bar with medic overheal is still 450 hp.
Unfortunately...
And if you eat it while being overhealed ?
Does it matter if my textmode window is open or not?
What do you mean? If it's minimized or not? It doesn't matter if it's minimized or not.
If you click out than that means you aren't in the game..
And if you eat it while being overhealed ?
It won't boost you to 500 now stop asking.
Wait, I'm connected, but I'm in the main menu you get when you first connect, not on a team. Does this mean I won't get drops?

When you connect to a server that is connected to the Steam Cloud you will get drops. And every server is pretty much connected to the Steam Cloud unless it's global, which does happen.
Why would you want to launch the game and not play it?
Because most people don't actually play achievement_idle. Sure, we could launch it normally, but it takes up memory and slows down your computer.
With textmode and several other commands, you can idle by just having a text box and connection to the server.
pretty awesome, got the direct hit after 20 minutes of idling, lol.
Yesterday, i idled for 8 hours, and just got one dead ringer.. :<
wow.... i got kicked for being idle too long on an IDLE server.
Disconnect: [AFK Manager] You were kicked for being AFK for too long..
I always get kicked though, because I'm not taking damage.
wow.... i got kicked for being idle too long on an IDLE server.
I once was on an idle server where the admin was yelling at everyone idling in spectator mode WITH A MIC to get out of spectator mode because it's "Wasting slots for the people who want to play."
However, in the admin's defense, I asked him "What about the people wasting space sitting there in the spawn room?" He replied "It's not my rule, the owner is a fucking retard."
If Valve yells at people for using this textmode setting, then they need to blame themselves first. They should NOT be allowed to punish us for this especially. The least they can do is disable textmode, which therefore would end idling in such a matter.
Can someone contact Valve, any employee with knowledge about it anyways, and see if this is actually okay to do?
what will be written when i actually get an item/hat?
