Sure, they'll remove all the items of people using -textmode command.
What about modders, or scripter using this command for something other than idling ?
The only thing they can do, is just removing the command, that's all.

So, in-game idling is OKAY, but for some odd reason, using an ancient HL2.exe launch option makes it not okay?

Valve drew the line at 3rd party apps. They rewarded [b]in-game idlers[/b] and non-idlers with a halo.
It's a bit too late for Valve to start punishing in-game idlers
Adding "-textmode" doesn't change anything over the fact that it's still in-game idling.
So, it makes no sense to think Valve will not punish in-game idlers, but punish in-game idlers who use "-textmode"
Just because it [i][b]looks[/i][/b] like SteamStats, because it's a black terminal with scrolling text, doesn't mean it's wrong.
Valve didnt go after SteamStats users because of what it "looked" like. They went after SteamStats users because they weren't using the TF2 client to idle.

I don't get the point of idling now. Back in the first hat update ('twas the spy/sniper update IIRC) you would idle and be special as the one guy who had a hat. Now after the classless update they added new hats. Same shit happened - be the rare guy with X hat.
But now, like 8 months later, everybody has at least one or two hats. They aren't really cool anymore and you don't even see them when playing.
Now when they add comunity weapons it might be worth it because you can get cool guns that you can actually see.

Personally, I see the only good reason to idle anymore is to get metal so you're ready for those new updates.

They can't justify punishing people for using a launch option.
No matter what, they can't say that they don't allow using a hl2.exe setting
They put it there and allowed it to be used, so it is then allowed.
Just like in-game idling is allowed because it's simply "there".

I'm not understanding how people are interpreting this as a risk. Getting banned from using textmode is the equivalent of having the FBI on your back for using 1280x800 resolution without a permit.

This is the same as idling on a real server, you won't get any magical drop rate boost by using this
