• A New Way To Idle?
Does idling in textmode decrease memory usage?
It does for me, but really slightly; it uses about two hundred megabytes of RAM. Avoids it crashing on my eeepc, though :v: Found three items with it overnight, so yeah, it works and quite well

Wait, what is this?
It better not be another cheatdetector :argh: From SourceOP http://www.sourceop.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=43554#43554
I got one too.
You're fucked.
Also nonidlers are getting these items, too.
If it's a pair of devil horns like was suggested in the other thread on this I'll equip it for every single class.
Just some additional comments of the textmode and idling in general. 1. You can idle as a spectator. This means there is no need to join a team or select a class. 2. Using the method I posted anyways, CPU usage and memory is way down. I've been running using the following:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 440 -textmode -nosound -nopreload -noshaderapi +connect serverIP:serverPort
and have seeing consistent CPU usage of 0-1% and memory starting at 100MB and rising over the past 12 hours to ~185MB, way down from normal usage. 3. Running with textmode allows one to play other Source games simultaneously as previously mentioned by scotty-furs (thanks). 4. Using textmode is in no way putting oneself at more risk than idling in-game (non-console mode). It's the exact same thing, it's just using additional resources. I actually wonder if Valve could tell the difference... 5. Using -noshaderapi will allow one to start TF2 in textmode over a remote desktop connection (very useful for me). -noshaderapi will however reset all video settings to default. BeerMcgraw has a work-around for this http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=20759483&postcount=55 (thanks). Once the update is released, the front-end (client) will be updated to include these new drop items. At that time they will have a proper title and image.
3. Running with textmode allows one to play other TF2 games simultaneously as previously mentioned by scotty-furs (thanks).
I thought it was other source games, But does that mean items can be obtained while playing in a different server for non idling purposes?
I thought it was other source games, But does that mean items can be obtained while playing in a different server for non idling purposes?
Source games, not TF2. Corrected.
You can run tf2 too, but I don't think you can be on 2 different servers with the same steamid
11:14 PM - Robin: heh, it's stuff that's supposed to be out tomorrow :wtc:
Edit: Bah I quoted the wrong person.
Thanks, OP!
Does anyone have one of those steam link things that you can click to automatically join an idle server. Server browser isn't working for me
But if i get caught again i lose everything!
But if i get caught again i lose everything!
Caught doing what again? 3rd party app instead of TF2? Is using hl2.exe -game tf -textmode = 3rd party app? I THINK NOT!!! MORON! [i say that only because I have this actor's voice in my head, I dotn think you're a moron, just ignorant [Michael Jackson's voice from South Park]
Do you have to do anything besides join a server to idle? Wouldn't that put you in spectator mode? Can you idle from spectator mode? (sorry, haven't actually idled for real in a long tme)
Read the thread. You should know this.
Read the thread. You should know this.
Sorry.
-textmode allows you to play other Valve games while TF2 is launched
It even allows you to launch TF2 again...
My PC beeps while I idle. What.
My PC beeps while I idle. What.
.... You moron that's sentry guns that people that hate idlers build to destroy them all.
My PC beeps while I idle. What.
Why are you dying? You're not even on a team.... Anyways just type "-stopsounds" in the launch options.
Why are you dying? You're not even on a team.... Anyways just type "-stopsounds" in the launch options.
what server are you guys on
When I try to join a server it says 'Disconnect: This server uses different class tables'. Any solutions?
When I try to join a server it says 'Disconnect: This server uses different class tables'. Any solutions?
join a server with the same class tables.
The thing is that yesterday I joined a server and it worked, but today I joined same server and this happened. What are class tables anyway? 'Disconnect: This server uses different class tables' is happening to all the idle servers I try to join.
