What's amazing is that most economies run on supply and demand, but TF2's runs on a weird system. There are less Bills than Buds but they are valued less, and there are less Visors than Bills and they are valued less. Quite strange.
Also Unusuals are being unboxed non stop and will eventually flood the market.

It really is pretty interesting to watch now that I bowed out of being part of it. Or even when I was still in it, hearing the news of the Poker Night Luger and the instant Chicken Little-ing and Fire Sales that occurred within SECONDS, kinda like the stock market, was fascinating. Also, the hats support valve and continued development of TF2, which is always a good thing. Who knows, maybe we'll eventually get that TF2 movie they talked about a little while back.

TF2's economy runs on a combination of multiple factors, namely being how good they look on the character, how rare they are, what special and useless attributes/colors they have, and and if applicable what unusual effect they have.
As for Unusuals flooding the market, while there are many being unboxed constantly, at the same time many people who stopped playing have them, and thus their Unusuals fall out of circulation, or they never plan on trading them away ever(I fall into both of these), and while there are many being unboxed there are also what, over 200 hats now? With like 13 different effects possible? Even now, two thirds of a year since the advent of the Mannconomy, there are still only a handful of Flies Tyroleans. It will take many years or a change in the drop rate/method of obtaining Unusuals for any given hat with a given effect to be REALLY commonplace.

Well, when all lugermorphs were made vintage, so were Self-Made Lugermorphs but they retained their sparkle effect. People started adding TellTale employees to get them. Valve said they did not like this and started wiping backpacks of people who had them. TellTale employees also started telling other employees not to sell them. Quite a few were ripped off, maybe less than 10 but they sell for quite a bit.

I remember one time, someone put up a thread saying they were about to rip off a lugermorph from a TellTale employee and wanted offers on it, he wouldn't reveal the employee but we all ganged up and started hunting down employees telling them not to trade it, then the person got pissed off as he didn't get the lugermorph. Good times.
