Not really, if at all only for the random crits.
I usually combat reload a lot with either since i'm emptying the thing like crazy so the ammo difference doesn't matter.
I use the normal shotgun for the extended clip and for the fact that most of the time I don't get a lot of sentry kills
I always keep my normal shotgun with me, even if I have the gunslinger equipped. It's helpful as a last resort to my pistol + minisentry.
