It actually deals a little more damage. Consecutive reloads are identical but that initial reload is slightly longer by a quarter of a second, that won't affect you too much unless you shoot -> reload frequently.
The fact remains that having an extra rocket, limitless reserve ammo and the OPTION to unleash a charged shot is what makes it superior to the stock launcher.
I got raped by a small group of bots that had I equipped black box or anything else I would've succeeded.
I dont feel bad for buying the whole pack since i havent bought something that wasent store only since Polycount, since the summer scout items WERE store only.
Because i do like the misc and think it will look cool once we get two misc slots going, and im not about to argue with traders trying to get the misc normally.
Although i still want a clean Pocket Medic.

Star Fortress 2: The Clone War.
Also, what is the drawback to the laser rockets besides the less damage to sentries (which as far as I can tell doesn't matter when accounting for the stun)

No crits. At all, even when critboosted. Such a crippling downside :downs:
If anything, it's an annoyance for Kritzkrieg medics when they realize that the charge does fucking nothing :I
Ah, right, the lack of crockets. But you can make your own mini-crits, so it sort of evens out.
So if you play on an arena server that doesn't have random critical anyways, it's flat out better. Cool.

I love this misc so much.

No crits as a downside has been and always will be a joke downside. It was laughable when the Blutsauger was added, it's laughable now.
well tested with engi,it is not that bad/op as we think,it makes the sentry disabled for the same duration as Wrangler (i.e when you unequip it). Also building damage is very very low.So it does not do soo much damage unless the whole team is attacking together.

Do you have a pic of one with Honcho's Headgear?
The largest downsides to the Mangler are the EXTREMELY low damage to buildings (seriously you can't even kill a mini-sentry with less than 4 rockets) and the EXTREMELY slow projectile speed.
It's really not as OP as people are claiming.

I think the Hachimaki makes it look good too.

But against a team that has any idea what they're doing, the sentry is as good as scrap metal as soon as the soldier has his eyes on it.
It was already fairly easy to dispatch enemy sentry guns with teamwork, this just makes it retardedly-easy and doesn't put the Soldier at much risk to have his team reap the rewards.
I for one welcome our new alien overlords.
Also I think the new rocket launcher fits the art style, it's got some 50s-cadillac-esque swooping motifs on it. the ray gun not so much but i don't really care.

I'm pretty sure an engineer could actually pick up and move his sentry gun a few feet in the time it would take a soldier to land a charged shot from outside sentry range. And if he tries to fire from inside sentry range he'll be dead before the charge is done.

The rockets seemed to travel as fast if not faster than regular rockets.

If the Soldier's team was at the ready anyway, they'd be rushing in as soon as the Engineer makes himself vulnerable by doing that. It's a lose-lose situation no matter what the Engineer does.

Can you get a picture with the proof of purchase/
This is a beautiful little update. Nice little lead up, Nice models, nice animations, a humorous blogpost and a well written comic.
It's just a shame that Engineer is still left in the cold, nothing negative to say otherwise.

Totally worth the dozen Summer hats and 23 refined to end up with these.
I crafted the hat and the laser gun. All I need is the other laser gun and the beard.
I'm all for the engineer finding one of the other rockets and getting cool weapons, but I hope the pyro doesn't.
I really can't seem to understand why Facepunch is willing to bend over backwards for the pyro so much. I think the 3rd rockets weapons should go to the medic instead.
disables buildings for 4 seconds
wow
I'm not going to lie, this update is actually some of the most fun I've had with the game in a long time. Fucking around on a server with lasers flying everywhere and everyone just having some good old fashioned fun. It's great.
One game my entire team went soldier, almost all of us using the lasers except for one or two to take out sentry nests, and we got our asses kicked. I don't think the new weapons are overpowered at all. They're powerful, but in the end I find myself being more effective with the regular rocket launcher. If you ask me it's a fair tradeoff. The only reason it seems particularly overpowered is because everyone is using it at the moment; give it a couple weeks and you'll see less laser soldiers and it won't be too bad. Any competent player should be able to take out a laser soldier easily. And against sentry nests they're almost completely helpless unless they have team mates to back them up. I didn't realize how huge of a downside not being able to combat sentries was until I actually played with the new weapons.

It's only powerful if your team doesn't consist of 5 Lasoldiers, a Scout, and a Sniper.

The only downsides are with crits and buildings. Every other class is unaffected by the downsides but the Soldier can still take advantage of the upsides.
The only valid reason I've heard to use the stock Rocket Launcher over the laser gun is for sentry removal. However, a coordinated team can do that just fine if you utilize the building-disabling alt-fire, so not very much is gained from sticking with the stock counterpart. There's also the ability to actually be affected by a Kritzkrieg, but I'm expecting that to be changed soon since it's very frustrating for Medics.
disables buildings for 4 seconds
wow
Those are very quick seconds. Very quick seconds in which you will not even scratch the sentry because you do pretty much no building damage.
What I'd like is a Tesla Gun for the Engineer. Replaces the shotgun, does a short range burst of electricity that slows down enemies, and stuns enemies for a moment if they are, say, below 20% health. Give it only one or two shots before it must reload but let it hit multiple enemies in the burst. But it would be a very short burst, and about as much damage as a normal shotgun blast at best. That actually really fits the Engineer's style. Keeps him as a support class, but gives him more versatility.
