Ok I have applied to be a coach already but I have a few questions to ask.
1) If you apply to be a coach and then it turns out you are awful at teaching or you just don't like it can you withdraw?
2) I know there is no official benchmark but I'm guessing there must be some way that you guys quality control who becomes a coach no? I'm sure lots of new people who think they are fabulous would love to teach people that ubering snipers out of combat is the smart thing to do. So my question is what are the criteria?
3) Can I change what I put on my form? The thing is because I don't know what kind of skill level you guys want I put down my main class medic. Which leads me neatly onto:
4) Let's say I play on the lotus clan arena servers and Payload servers and on a 20 min map cycle on an arena server I usually end up at the top of the board (not hard as a medic tbh) with between 70-120 (145 is my record) points and around 20-30K healing (record is 50K)?
5) Do you guys even want a guy who only teaches one class in one language?
Sorry I know there's a lot to answer there but I am curious as to how this will work out. Hopefully more willing and able students will turn up when all of this takes off with the website and the blog posts.
Regards

I'm not actually the one setting this up but earlier I asked about what would be required to be coach and it might be that you've needed to own TF2 for a certain amount of time, and display some skill with the class you want to teach, for example, you could look at my TF2 stats and see I've owned TF2 for more than a year and that I have relatively good stats for most classes.
I haven't asked about it yet but I'd imagine there could be the requirement of showing screenshots or replays of your gameplay to prove you can actually play well and aren't cheating or something.
(This is mostly just me guessing, but this could very well be likely to ensure quality)
Oh, and this is a forum, you don't ever need to "sign" your posts with something like "Regards, Wipeout"
We can already tell who posted.

Alright well I think the point I'm making is I'm really only good with one class. The "85 kills" for engineer is a one off I'm afraid. Thing is I know the tactics of all of these classes on the whole because I've read all the guides on the wiki (or at least most of them).
The problem is I'm in need of a coach myself for certain classes because and my aim is shocking...unless I'm using a needle gun which is why I can play medic reasonably well... or at least so I'm told.

Right ok well that's something a bit more black and white I guess. Thing is I have self esteem issues so I gave up trying to judge myself a long time ago so I mostly rely on what other people tell me these days. When I wrote that last post it was about 2 AM and it seemed a good idea at the time to just post what kinda scores I get but there's probably a bit more to it than that.
I'll just demo myself sometime if needs be.

Oh sorry it's a little compulsive habit of mine. I know that it's not needed but I do anyway sometimes because I forget. Force of habit I guess.
I'll see what the organisers of this have to say.
Thanks for your reply.
I was on this Badlands server and these dudes were getting mad at this one F2P'er.
They were basically just bitching at him and being mad as all fuck because he downloaded it, but I just saw him as a pretty good player and a good guy. So I basically gave him pointers about stuff, helped him get better with soldier, taught him loadouts, etc.
When most of the dumbasses left the server, I invited him to a trade, and gave him most of my drops.
It feels good to help these guys, genuinely.

I like helping F2P players, I truly do, but some of them are just retarded.
Quick question about coaching: How does communication work? Can everybody on the server hear when I hold V, or talk with Y or U?
I can't stop giving away all my spare weapons to F2P players, someone stop me, I can't make metal now.

Looks like I'm one of the better coaches over here.
Feels good man.
Any news on the website? I'm traveling right now and don't have access to Steam with the fucking slow as shit hotel wi-fi so if it's on the Steam group news I can't see it.

No. If it's alltalk, then yes.

Any news about the site buddy?
I just tried to help some new guy ( I asked if he was a F2P person and he said yes ) and I asked if he needed some help and he said he was pr0 and rushed out as a sniper with smg and died by a demo with stickies on the floor.
And this heavy and pyro kept spawn camping. And kept yelling into the mic were noobs and I went heavy and killed them all with my Tomislav. They kept saying we were noobs because he had to go heavy.
I said he was also a heavy in chat and he left.
Hello from sunny Sandy Eggo (GMT-8) I am a n00b looking for a coach. I filled out the application on this link http://*********com/stuapp , but it looks like there is lots more action here.
I can't even login yet, the download is taking F... O... R... E... V... E... R seriously I should have just bought the game.
I enjoyed Halo, Mass Effect, WoW, CoD... Even without ever playing it, I think TF2 will be my game of choice for awhile. I'm horrible at learning maps, though... that might be a big turn off for me.
So, if anyone in/around the GMT-8 Pacific Standard Time is willing to coach me, I'd appreciate it.
Steam ID is same as forum name here.

I could try coaching you, I'm in Standard Eastern Time so times shouldn't be too far apart. (Compared to players in different countries)
I have been trying to act as a coach for DAYS and i haven't gotten ONE single person yet.
how will I know that I'm not-sucky enough for actual online play? can I assume it's when I actually stop being terrible at offline play? :v:
ah, but yeah. I'm looking for a coach, too. mostly a "what the hell are you doing? don't do that. do this instead." type of coach.
and haha. it took me from 8PM to 5AM to download.

Offline play isn't really the best way to practice for online in my opinion. The bots are predictable, stupid, and they don't even have bots that can be spies (since creating an AI that's intelligent enough to act like a player for the spy is basically impossible). Overall I recommend taking the tutorials and then playing a bit offline to make sure you can use the weapons and classes relatively well then jumping into the game, though you still might want a coach.
I figured it would be something like that. I've read/watched a few tutorials so I think I have the basic strategy down. in theory. xD
wish me luck.
Should the coaches be admin in the steam group?
is the soda popper any good ?
is the soda popper any good ?
do you like using the force a nature?
do you like using the force a nature?
they're two completely different weapons
anyway so I tried the coaching thing in-game and when I finally got to coach someone they didn't listen to anything I said and ignored me
so uh anyone need any coaching?
Should the coaches be admin in the steam group?
Nope.
We are waiting for this site for so long.
Is there a way to tell if alltalk is on on a server that you join via coaching?

Dragory is getting the machine for the data center tomorrow. Then, we will get a link to a working backend. Tomorrow.

By the way, guys, any suggestions for sites to be linked to at the website? Useful websites, please.

Well the TF2 wiki no doubt, maybe the F2P FAQ on the F2P TF2 site.
