Nopety nope.

I'm almost absolutely sure that was the entire point considering almost all of the phrases were based off of Soldier quotes.
Looking to do begineer help.

That's the way, ahah ahah, I like it.
I just coached for the first time. It was fun, i think the guy learned something, I was going to give him items but he left the server and I couldn't find his profile. :saddowns:
[editline]16th July 2011[/editline]
I was teaching him spy on mario_kart. :v:
I gave as a present a Wrangler to a nice new guy and taught him to use it.
I didn't did that for the speks, but he said he's goin to put me as his referral anyway.
It felt great.
Helped another guy. He lost connection half way through and rejoined, and by that time i entered the match as an actual player. When he rejoined I taught him how to play while playing along side him, eventually I added him to friend's list. He was having connection trouble though, so I couldn't teach him as well...
Another overload of students. Coaches, check your profiles for matching students.
We'll also be updating and adding some new stuff that was requested through our e-mail: contact@tf2coaches.net
Just joined, should be able to put my 2k hours too good use.
What i think might aid us is trying to create some slightly more advanced version of the valve training maps for each class.
So i'd like lots of ideas on what you think should be covered in intermediate lessons on the engi, soldier, demo and spy and what basic lessons should cover for the other classes. Perhaps ideas a generic all class tutorial too on crouch jumping and stuff like that too. I'd also like all the ideas to still be doable in the original valve training map, perhaps with a few tweaks like they're is in the valve training maps.
Reposting because i'd really like some input to help with this
I was bored and thought I'd try coaching.
Each time I'd accept I'd either enter a loading screen that wouldn't progress, or get the "server is full" message.
Hey here's a small extract of a Soldier guide I'm writing.
HARDWARE
One of the most important things to start with is a decent PC. You don't need a 3000$ PC to play TF2, but you should at least get 60 fps and 30 fps minimum when there's a lot of action going on.
There are too many things you could try out to improve your average FPS to list and I'll get back to that later on. The next thing you should check is your mouse, and by that I mean both your mouse and mousepad.
Your mouse should have 5 buttons. While 3 are enough to play, binding your Melee (Slot 3) to a thumb button makes weapon switching that much easier. Optical and laser mice are both fine, as long as they don't have prediction. They don't have to be wireless, too. I myself am using a Logitech G9X. Other great gaming mice include the Logitech logitech mx518 and the Razer deathadder.
Your mouspad should be quite big, especially when playing with a lower sensitivity. You should at least be able to make a 360 degree turn without lifting your mouse off the pad. If you have enough space on your desk or wherever you play you should get a steelseries QCK+, these are huge and extremely comfortable. In general, your pad should be as big as your desk space allows.
You should also buy a good pair of headphones, if you're willing to spend a little more you should get some with 5.1 surround sound so you can hear exactly where your enemy is without seeing him. Playing without headphones is a huge disadvantage.
CONFIG TWEAKS/ SOFTWARE
If you don't get 60 fps constantly, and even if you do, you should consider installing an fps config. Even if you don't need the extra fps these will let you concentrate more on the gameplay and what's going on itself than the map and its details. Here's a link to my favourite fps config: http://www.fakkelbrigade.eu/chris/configs/
If you don't like fps configs at least have a look at the highfps one and copy over the ragdoll settings. You should disable them as they're just distractions and won't help you in any way.
There's also a detailed, idiot-proof tutorial on how to install it. If you need even more fps/ visibility, there's a little hardware tweak (Guide: http://tf2scout.blogspot.com/2009/07/high-lod-picmip-hack-for-tf2.html) which will make your game look like this: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540645435751125801/FCE1B6D4B10E4ECCFEE0CBAF63EF1B83313A8FE9/
It's important you tweak your config (autoexec.cfg) to suit your playstyle and taste. TF2 and the source engine in general offer great customizability through CVARS, so you should make use of that and customize your game to something you're perfectly comfortable with.
- Custom HUDS (need to write this later on)
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/01/27/th...rtress-2-huds/
My recommendations: BroeselHUD, m0rehud, oxidehud
- Hitsounds/ Combattext (Damage indicator)
By default there's this horrible DING sound, you should change that to a better one, like the Quake 3 hitsound. Download http://fakkelbrigade.eu/arie/hitsound.wav and follow the instructions on the website.
Put this in your autoexec.cfg:
tf_dingalingaling "1"
tf_dingaling_pitchmaxdmg "166"
tf_dingaling_pitchmindmg "66"
tf_dingaling_volume "1"
play ui/hitsound.wav
This makes the hitsound ascending depending on the damage you did.
The combattext is a bit more difficult to change, the default one is really small and red. Green, Yellow or Pink combattext works much better, and you can also make the text bigger. Most custom huds already have an edited combattext file but if you want to edit it you need do open huddamageaccount.res in your tf/resource/ui folder.
- Key layout
The first thing you absolutely need to enable is fastswitch (hud_fastswitch 1 or in the advanced options menu/ multiplayer). This makes you switch weapons a lot faster. My weapon selecting keys are as follows for the soldier: MWheel Up - Rocket launcher, MWheel down - Secondary, Mouse 5 (The button right at your thumb) - Melee.
This allows for quick weapon selection without any delay. I'd also recommend turning on autoreload for the soldier, it never hurts unless you're annoyed by the rocket launcher taking up half of your screen while reloading (you could also turn weapon models off, r_drawviewmodels 0 in console). I recommend the following layout: WASD movement, Mouse2 to duck (this will come in useful later on), space to jump, q for the last weapon, l to explode (bind l explode in console), rest defaults.
What do you think? It's not finished yet (at all) and this is just the first part which isn't soldier-specific, except maybe the key layout part.
Some feedback would be nice. I'll probably need to find someone to spellcheck the final version of the guide for me, my grammar is pretty bad.
[editline]17th July 2011[/editline]
I also need to do some formatting, hard to read like that
[editline]17th July 2011[/editline]
One more thing. The final version will be about 4 times longer, so do you think it deserves its own thread? Vote agree if you think it does.

Because I'm a complete idiot I started this as it's own thread and didn't notice this thread. God I freaking hate myself sometimes. Anyways:
So this guy has been a good friend of mine (In real life.) for a few years. I got him to be a full fledged PC gamer. Though he mainly plays RPGs such as the original Fallout games or RTSs like Civilization.
He's always been interested in tf2 and when it was free he jumped on it right away.
He didn't wanna play with other people at first, understandable, so I started up a little private server with bots.
He got his ass kicked, and I mean it was kicked fucking hard.
The poor guy has never owned a pc FPS before.
So for a couple weeks I was teaching him how to play. He started with those training things first and did them all.
Then we spent about a week and a half on that little server I set up practicing.
His favorite class is Soldier we found out. "Nice, simple, and gets the job done." as he says.
At the end of the week he got a premium account, bought the 1.00 starter pack for the soldier and spent half a week seeing out of the items available what he liked best.
To my surprise I got these neat-o sunglasses, apparently if a f2p guy upgrades he can choose who helped him the most and he gives you these nice glasses.
So after all that time we both felt he could take a real server.
On to ctf_2fort.
I went Medic, with my new nifty glasses, and overdose in hand.
He went Soldier, with his tyrant-helm and rocket launcher ready for duty.
I was healing him as he ran through red base, blasting and meleeing the fuck out of everybody.
He grabbed the intel and me and him made it back hardly hurt.
We ran back for a second rush, but I was killed.
He capped anyway.
He then said he could do it with out me.
He capped the intel about 4 times by himself and only died twice.
Ladies and gentleman, I do believe I successfully trained this fine soldier into a lean mean team playing machine.

That's a real nice story, though you should probably try to convince him to diversify his playing style.
One player who can play all nine classes decently can (not saying this is absolutely true) be more useful to his team than a player who can only play one class well.
(even if you're the best sniper in the world I'd be pissed off if you went Sniper when we already had 5 snipers on our team)

Well I figured it would be best for him to focus on a single class at first.
He actually has tried the sniper a bit and he really likes that play style as well.
I got specks.
