• FPS Issues, and how they've been Bugging Me Over the Past Year

Yeah sorting by CPU is usually best, but as you can see SYSTEM is the thing eating all of it. Try ending that, it should automatically restart if it's anything like Windows 7, maybe with less processor consumption this time around
I used to have problems on perfectly fine hardware, I think it's the orange box engine that has hardware issues since none of the other builds of the source engine does this, including L4D's
A good way to see if you have malware is if there are "System" processes that take up much CPU, when you close them down and they automatically restart themselves then you might have malware. Edit; This goes for some user processes aswell
Create a text file. Type in: MYSTRING=(80000000) Save it as .VBE format. Click it when you have high RAM usage. It supposedly opens up some memory.
The thing is that Css runs good for him. maleware or other crap would be affecting it. try uninstalling tf2 and reinstalling it
I ran Ad-Aware and not a single thing came up. I guess I should try Spybot or Avast now? Defrag said I don't need to do it again for a long time. Seriously there's not much more I can do with these I'm pretty sure almost all of these need to run. Could it have something to do with the nVidia control panel?
Close down all that start with ash (even if they are on system), as these are for avast. Avast is eating memory and I really suggest not even having it installed. SAgent2.exe is also non essential you can close it aswell. It's for the printer. Also google told me that NMSAccessU.exe is a common malware camoflauge. [editline]03:32AM[/editline] Close both of the zune processes while you're at it. [editline]03:33AM[/editline] What I want to know is why the fuck your system system process is using 50%
end system it will auto restart and you never know maybe it's using less cpu this time
avast won't let me end, it's saying "access is denied" anyway this is just ridiculous, even with these processes running I should be able to run TF2 at max with the hardware I have easily. Spybot didn't come up with anything, either.

Play episode 2, same engine as tf2 so it should get the same bugs or portal

da fuck...?

My tests show that TF2 is a resource hog compared to Portal. One of the reasons for this could be the following: 1. Portal is single player and does not need to keep track of other players. 2. Portal is mainly based on indoor activities, no open spaces. (When in spawnroom I got up to 100fps in TF2). TF2 on my PC 74fps Portal on my PC 120fps (lookie it's the same place as yours :D) [editline]05:34AM[/editline] Oh forgot these, notice how much more memory it uses. Plus steam seems to hog more memory when TF2 is playing compared to Portal. These images were taken while the games were minimized if anyone is wondering. Ok well I just started up the task manager right when I logged on before all of the processes started up and it was between 0 and 8% and when they started it shot back up to 50% but as I started closing a few down it went all the way back down. I'm thinking one of these processes is malware or something. (then I kept closing down more processes which caused my computer to shut off >.>) [editline]08:40AM[/editline]
end system it will auto restart and you never know maybe it's using less cpu this time
I can't end it it won't let me. [editline]08:47AM[/editline] HOLY SHIT I figured out which process, spoolsv.exe after I closed it CPU is down to 0%.
Delete your TF2 cfg folder.
^I will try that. Also spoolsv.exe keeps starting up again. [editline]09:02AM[/editline] YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

[editline]09:02AM[/editline] YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
"In other cases, spoolsv.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!" Have fun with removing that, unless you use an old printer 24/7 then it's probably that. Side question, have you got MS Office image writer installed?
I had that problem with one svhost.exe process. I had to reinstall windows for that to end :/ [editline]05:16PM[/editline] Oh lol kill me
"In other cases, spoolsv.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!" Have fun with removing that, unless you use an old printer 24/7 then it's probably that. Side question, have you got MS Office image writer installed?
No I don't think so, and I do have an ancient printer here that doesn't work at all that I need to throw out and get a new one, but spoolsv has to be the problem, in taskmanager the memory usage is super low, the CPU is at 00, and it comes back when it's ended. It's the perfect virus.
Found this in google: http://torque.oncloud8.com/archives/000384.html Maybe it'll help with the spoolsv If leetle baby is afraid to click, here: First, get some breathing room - go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and stop the Print Spooler. Turn off the printer. Now go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS and delete the files there. I found '00020.SHD' and '00020.SPL'. Now turn your printer back on and restart the service. Check task manager, spoolsv.exe should be at 00%. Whew!
http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/spoolsv.exe.html How to fix spoolsv.exe related problems? 1. Run Security Task Manager to check your spoolsv.exe process 2. Run Registry Booster to fix spoolsv.exe related errors 3. Run Spyware Doctor to remove persistent malware I hope that help bit
Good call, abcpea.
Good call, abcpea.
It's not the cfg folder that did it, that motherfucking taintroach of a virus took most of my CPU is what fucked it up. [editline]09:51AM[/editline] Anyway thanks so much guys you've all helped a lot with this. [editline]09:59AM[/editline] Holy shit this gave like a 50 FPS boost to every game I have, CSS goes at like 160 FPS now.
The lesson learned here is that TF2 relies on CPU alot compared to other Valve games....
