Hurt, but not kill/stun.
As the guy above said, it'd turn Tf2 into Super Mario and it'd be too easy to kill people. Everyone would become goombas.
Actually, it's really hard to get a goomba stomp. You can't jump higher that other classes' heights and rocket jumping onto someone's heads would take precision.
Good idea, only if the one-land kill bit is removed; it's very easy to land on a target's head.
The gunboats are overpowered if they're given to a soldier who knows how to rocket jump.
You mean something like this?
One simple addition: Killing if you land on someone's head. if this is too overpowered, make it stun players, like the sandman used to. The boots are big and heavy looking, so this makes sense.
I have never tough of that but it sounds like it makes sense...or not
@comtochus exactly
I'd say make you unable to take fall damage while wearing them. This encourages rocket jumping without fear of taking a bit of fall damage. They look like they could absorb the landing anyway.
Yes but give them a new nerf. Like it causes the soldier to walk slower or a health cap or something.
1. Soldier doesn't need to walk slower
2. The point of the gunboats is so you lose less health on rocket jumps. Whats the point if you take health away by equipping them?
Lower fall damage by 70% percent at least and then they will get more use.

Shoot rockets at your feet before landing
They look like they could absorb the landing anyway.
Energy transfers through mass until it reaches the end of it, then attempts to disperse. This is how those little desk ball clickers work, the energy from one end transfers to the other through the middle 3 balls. As such, wearing metal boots would not save you from a thirty story drop.
Actually it would probably cause more damage, since your terminal velocity would increase due to the weight of the boots, as would the speed you fall.
Here's mine:
Let me be able to turn them into scrap metal I have like 4 of them.
You do know you can craft 3 gunboats together to make a scrap metal..... right?
I meant as in craft them with another soldier weapon- fuck it I'm testing it
Shoot rockets at your feet before landing
I'm fully aware of this but that means you can only fire 2 rockets while airborne, 3 at a push.
We need Mario style tf2!
I guess you've never seen mario_kart.
I guess you've never seen mario_kart.
I don't even see how that map is even remotely Mario related. It's full of dumb 4chan shit.
hi, gunboats are useful already l2p
the only way to make them useful is to give them to the Demoman, why, because it makes more sense.

Soldiers use the rocket jump as a combat tactic, Demomen sticky jump only as a means of transportation.
Makes more sense that soldiers get the gunboats.
And anyways, which slot would the demo-gunboats take up?

The grenade launcher, obviously.
Make them cause a shockwave when you land hard enough to take damage. Conc blast!
hi, gunboats are useful already l2p
Are the gunboats a good alternative to the shotgun? Most of the time no.

Hat slot.
Amirite?
In my opinion, they're fine as they are, the ability to rocket jump and rain down rockets for only 12 HP (not counting fall damage) is worth losing the shotgun on open maps like Badwater.
I thought it needed a buff, but now I actually have them, I think they're already incredibly useful as they are now. Of course, they're supposed to be used on open maps, they're used for Rocket Jumping, and they do their job really well on the maps you are supposed to use it.
Now if it changes the map to something like Granary, why don't you just change weapons, what's really the problem of pressing 'M' and switching them? People complain about how the Scottish Resistance can't be used for attacking, but why would you do that, the reason you should use it is to defend.
I mean, there are some kind of weapons that are extremely situational, but people keep complaining about buffs or nerfs. In my opinion, it's the case of the Gunboats.

If you drop a marble and a bowling ball at the same time. They both fall at the same speed. I know the bowling ball will cause more damage but still. Also TF2 is a game damn it, it doesn't need to be perfectly sensible.
P.S - If you fell down a building with a door and the door landed first, you would take a lot less damage if the door was on top of you or you didn't even have a door.

You're right about the first part, he's right about the second.

Oh, right. Forgot about those experiments for some reason, my brain was trying to put logic to physics.
Your terminal velocity WOULD increase, though. An extra, what, 20 or 30 pounds of metal on your boots would have an effect on that.
Great idea; definitely agree with this.
