Anyone else hoping that the soldier gets something other than a rocket launcher?

You know what?
No.
The Soldiers next weapon will be something to do with art.
His melee weapon will be a paint brush! And he will flick paint into the enemies eyes, making them BLIND! And he will STAIN THERE CLOTHES! He will then proceed to write MAGGOTS on the wall!
I have proof that this will be his melee weapon too! He mentions PAINTING 2 times in his Blog!
If that isn't proof, I don't know what is!
It will be a kind of rocket launcher for sure. Valve has a pattern going for the unlocks.
Main-Similar to original
Secondary-Entirely different
Melee-Similar to original
The Huntsman is completely different than the Sniper Rifle.

Also, I hope he gets a huge, rectangular rocket-launcher, that explodes on impact like the regular launcher, but the rockets are square have huge weights on the front, so that if it hits somebody directly, it keeps pushing them until they hit something (or somebody, in the case it could even push them too!) and then blows up with reduced damage, but when they smash into something, it hurts them a certain amount depending on how far they've been pushed. (farther distance pushing = bigger damage for being smashed into the wall or whatever). It would have a slower rate of fire, though.
It could look something like this:
I was joking about the mini nuke idea by the way. If the soldier were to get a shield, I think it should go like this:
-Similar to the razor back, it takes damage, but can take numerous hits before getting destroyed.
-This shield should be held with the left hand
-The right hand would hold your melee or secondary weapon
-The shield would be held out in front of you, so you can still get backstabed, but most shots in front of you are blocked by the shield, except for your legs, so you would need to crouch to actually block completely.
-Similar to counterstrike 1.6, alt fire would bring the shield in front of you completely, but you can't shoot
-You can see the damage done to your shield by the obvious cracks, breaks, and tears in the shield
-Maybe the engineer can fix it and be credit to team
Taunts with it should be different too, for example, maybe with the new secondary weapon and the shield equipped, you would charge at the opponent in front of you and insta kill them.
So yeah I made up a shield idea except it isn't a shield. Basically:
- Shovel replacement. Shield is held the same as the shovel, deals exact same damage with same fire rate.
- Makes you 2x as heavy. Your rocket jumps will only take you half as high/far.
- M2 is a shield bash attack.
- During the shield bash, the soldier holds the shield out in front of him for ~1 second and moves at scout speed. Any hits to the front of the soldier will just bounce off.
- Bumping into enemies during the shield bash deals melee damage and knocks the enemy back a bit.
- Shield bash can even be done in air, resetting momentum like the scouts double jump. It doesn't make you move any higher, only forwards.
- Shield bash can only be done every 5 seconds or so.
So basically, instead of making rocket jumps take away less health, he just gets a new way of getting around and protecting himself. In exchange for his rocket jumps not being as good. So you could use it to block an airshot or get up in an enemys face, and... yeah it's just a quick dash where you block boolets that's about it.
i think the soldier should get an unlock and it shoots little rockets from the big rocket but you gotta charge it up
fully charged it is like a crit rocket but maybe it takes like 10 seconds to charge??
maybe
maybe
That's why a spudgun would be such a great addition. It's shaped like a rocket launcher, and fires like one, but it shoots potatoes.
He could taunt and eat one, get health.

Sombody suggested a "Control Crit Launcher"
The default rocket launcher gets a crit roughly on a 1/10 shot basis. With this rocket launcher, you would have a little bar build up with each rocket kill, and after 10 you can right click to fire a crit rocket.
It would probably have some downside like a slower firing rate or something, but I thought it was an excellent idea.
Rocket propelled chainsaw.
Come on, It'd be awesome.
A genius you are. :D
Id say a different rocket launcher, like... Bigger clip, slightly less fire rate? Or maybe... Heat seeking rockets with less damage? (non capable of 1 hiting characters like spy or scout in direct hits anymore, or no critical kills in any way, or maybe 1 rocket and reload)
For the secondary, maybe a lunchbox item to raise his hp for a short time or change something in him, like giving crit possibilities like the jarate but from himself on another?
For melee, maybe as said, a grenade on his fist, making it a hard fist, that on criticals, it would blow up, or would be able to throw it, at the cost of having to recharge it like the jarate or the sand man's ball.
As for taunt, it could be with this new melee, involving that scene on the meet the soldier video, when he "carefully" plays with the 2 grenades. Those 2 would blow up while he was telling the story and 'mashed them together, blowing up, giving an instant kill to the enemy.
Anyway, as long as their released, ill be happy, even though I dont use the soldier much.
*sits and waits for engi and demoman's updates aswell*
I want a new nade launcher!
Valve will have to come up with a absolutely amazing side grade to the rocket launcher to make me switch away from it; it's perfect currently, well aside from maybe needing a bit more ammo.

Okay that would make me switch away from the regular rocket launcer.

No doubt! I'd make it so that it doesn't explode, It just does a shitload of damage if it hits you dead on (and much less if it only catches you with the edge of the blade), and bounces around like crazy (imagine a prop with one half-strong thruster on it in gmod, like that, except that prop is a chainsaw)
That'd be balanced, I'd be more chaotic than a pyro in your face and you could dispose of everyone with your shotty, and if you hit them dead on it'd hurt like a mofo.
I'd settle for the Hl2 RPG, Everything the same, but the rockets do similar damage to the current Rocket Launcher's
I'd settle for the Hl2 RPG, Everything the same, but the rockets do similar damage to the current Rocket Launcher's
I could see that being way overpowered, the current rocket two-shots pretywell every class, if you could guide them *Shudder* It would be HORRIBLE for sen - well anyone really.
Soldier is so OP too so they might make the primary how everyone wants with a bigger clip size and less damage dealt.
I hope the soldiers gets a BAR or something.
Rambo's grenade bow, can't get more american than that :v:

Guy who writed Firstblood was canadian
Soldier's new weapon really needs a taunt, wehre Soldier actually throws a grenade.
The only thing that really would sound realistic is a mortar where you can only load one missle at a time and has a medium radius and does 100 HP DMG.
Guy who writed Firstblood was canadian
Don't be silly, Canadians can NEVER become as awesome as Rambo! Heh heh, (right? hoo boy...)
What about a pistol and shield like in CS?
Can imagine him having an m1 carbine for shotgun replacement. Less damage but faster shooting and slightly longer range.
He could have frag grenades for a secondary weapon. Other then that I have no clue what he could get.
Go back to TFC god damn it.
We don't need grenades.
Demoman does that shit

Infringes on the sniper too much.
It would be kind of interesting if Valve decided to try something new and make the soldier act like a new class with a completely different primary. They started really conservatively in changes with the medic's unlocks, but now with the spy and sniper unlocks, it's shown they really break the mold in their design choices. It wouldn't surprise me if they kept on going and made the Soldier, a somewhat generic class, into some kind of variation.
First off, this. Hunstman and the Watches really did something special to change their respective classes... I think the Spy/Sniper update was really really balanced, barring the Razorback (which is simply useless).
One reason for that balance was that the Kukri and the Knife didn't get an alt. Valve realized that the melee weapons really can't be given a true sidegrade: they're too basic. So let's please stop talking about a Shovel unlock, okay? If it Does happen, it will be bad for the game, and if it doesn't that would be in line with Valve's new wisdom.
I think an light assault rifle would be interesting.
Though, I think that would work better for heavy
Assault Rifle Idea for Heavy
Move while firing, 60% less damage, 30 rounds reload, 300 in stock.
heavy moves 15% faster
I think it would be neat
yes, I know it's heavy but I couldn't think of what it would really do to soldier, but I'm just sick of using a rocket launcher :(
[editline]02:10PM[/editline]
Throwing shovels would be lulz too
Just strap a grenade to an eagle, and that's something to make massive change.
Just strap an eagle to a grenade, and that's something to make massive change.
Fix'd :science:
Well, either way, it's the same thing: a homing rocket.
Guys, the soldier isn't going to get a straightforward bullet weapon. TF2 has specialized classes, and a bullet weapon like a rifle or an assault rifle is too flexible.
So I just came up with an idea for the Soldier's primary unlock, rate me dumbs if you will. :downs:
Basically, it's sort of a high tech rocket launcher in that it's main twist is that you can lock on points for your rockets to go to before firing (stationary points though, not enemy players), and then fire. The key is that you can lock onto multiple points at a time and fire up to 3 rockets at a time. Now to keep it balanced, the rockets are weaker, and possibly slightly slower. The clip would hold 6 rockets with an extra an extra 12 in supply for 18 total, slightly less than the regular launcher.
When you lock on, a little glowing laser dot would glow on the point you aimed at, and like I mentioned earlier, you can lock on up to 3 points at a time. The catch is (in order to prevent 3 rockets to one point spam) that these locked on points have to be spaced apart. That is, it won't let you lock on to a point that's too close to another locked on point.
The control scheme would be left click to fire, right click to lock onto a point. If you don't lock onto a point, it will fire as per normal, but the rocket won't boost you as high in a rocket jump (because it's not as powerful).
Finally, the results that this weapon could bring are things such as area denial (3 rockets fanned out to knockback a wave of enemies), fire and forget when on the run, etc etc. (Just note that the rockets won't turn at 90 angles, so you'd still have to aim generally in the right direction.
Edit: And the Soldier should have some lines like "I don't know how this infernal contraption works, but I like it!"
