Anyone else hoping that the soldier gets something other than a rocket launcher?

The taunt kill should be like in classic cartoons: Taunting in front of the enemy will make the soldier insert a granade into the enemys mouth, and say: "KABOOM!" as the granade explodes.

2x Faster projectile

Shotgun:The Typewriter. (Thompson)
100 rounds that do less damage than standard shotgun shot
low accuracy
Shovel: Old Glory. (American Flag)
stabs down with pointed tip of flagpole
wide radius, each stab brings victim closer
lower damage than shovel, but faster swing rate
Taunt: Plants Old Glory in the ground, and 1. Puts his hand over his eyes as if looking on the horizon, and tears the flag out, mutilating anyone nearby or 2. Puts his hand over his heart, and sings "OOOH SAAAY CAN YOU SEEEE" and on SEEEE rips the flag out, with previous effect.

I hope he gets an assault rifle or something. The only fully automatic weapon in the game is the heavy's machinegun and the sniper's SMG. Well I guess the syringe gun counts too but its gay.
A 4-barreled rocket launcher that fires sentry rockets. Fast but single shot and long reload.

Soldier can teleport behind enemies and fly
Primary: M1 Garand. -30% damage, +100% clip size, 70% faster reload, no rocket jumps (:downs:).
Secondary: The Exploding Pineapple (grenade). +20% damage, only three can be carried.
Melee: Flag. -30% damage, boosts teammate speed by 10%.
I think that the rocket launcher, much like the spies knife, is in a positon where it cant be changed. I think the soldier will get a secondary slot weapon (maybe a rifle or mac-10ish weapon,) and a in-tube rocket capacity upgrade (4 to 6, maybey?) at the cost of no secondary weapon. For a melee weapon, I dont know. Maybe less damage and higher swing speed. Not like THATS never been done before.

I agree, the soldier with anything other than a rocket launcher just wouldn't fit him. The only thing that would be acceptable would be a rocket launcher with better defensive capabilities, such as faster rockets, but less damage.
As for secondary, perhaps something that lets him boost his teammates attack power or speed or something, such as everyone's favorite suggestion, the megaphone.
The melee weapon could stay the same, or maybe at the cost of no melee, you could get body armor (minor damage decrease from bullets, not explosives) or something.
The only thing i could think of is a rocket which you can detonate in midair making airshots easier and giving you the ability to change your direction in midair the disadvantages are more self damage(like 75 hp after two rocketjumps and only having two rockets in your clip maybe.
For the primary I could imagine something like a Fliegerfaust.

Like a mag dump firemode, fire all 8 rockets at once but they fly all over the place, kinda like a rocket shotgun.
I've got three possible idea's on the main weapon for the soldier, all of them pretty much explosive.
1. A rocket launcher that is equipped with a "Manuel Control" firemode and a "Dumb" Fire mode. Has a reduced capacity of only 2 rockets but allows the Soldier to fire a slower moving rocket that the player can control for a brief time.
It has limited fuel and the player can use the W and S keys to speed up or slow down the speed of the rocket, A and D turn the rocket left and right. It's powerful enough to kill a weaker class in a single hit like a Scout, Sniper or Spy, it never crits even when a medic is using a kritzkrieg on the soldier.
Another downside to make it balanced, is that a Soldier is immobile when using the controlled rocket. Dumb Fire rockets fire in a straight line but are even slower than regular rockets, due to the damage buff.
2. MAGGOT Missile Launcher, carries 6 small missiles called Maggots with a fast reload time. The Missiles do a lower amount of damage compared to the original rocket launcher but it allows the soldier to "lock on" to enemies and the Maggot missiles follow them until they get the Maggot or they run out of fuel. The rockets are small but are about as fast as an engineer.
3. The "Screaming Eagle" Bazooka, trades in the four rockets for one very powerful one. Has a large blast area and can kill most of the classes in a single direct hit (with the exception of the heavy), the splash damage makes it easy enough for a soldier to finish off players that just got hit with the splash damage with his shotgun and has enormous knockback in the explosion.
The weapon also has a taunt kill, called the "Screaming eagle". It causes the Soldier to scream aiming his Bazooka to the floor and firing launching himself into the air only to fall back down and explode again like a falling bomb, during this he screams until it's over.
This would be a Kamikazi taunt with two explosions, the first is the initial Bazooka firing into the floor, damaging all those around it and again when the soldier falls back and blows up upon hitting the floor.
I don't care what has to be removed from his inventory or health taken away, I want dual shotguns.
It would be so fucking awesome.
And those people who say things like "faster rate of fire, slower reload" that's just boring.

RAWKET jump is insanely useful so im not touching it
FOR SHOTTY: i propose a way of dealing indirect damage that is weaker than the demos nades and stickies, they are called MAGGOT/NAPALM MINES, napalm mines light the person on fire plus some low damage or the maggot mines are purely explosive so just damage also the soldier/teamates can trip the mine so that they can mine jump, they take time to set up e.g 1~2 seconds and appear to the enemy like a cloaked spy to his teammates so that they are see through but visible
Shovel: shovel is awesome but underused as is so we need either a nice upgrade/tradeoff or a complete replacement, so for tradeoff theres Mine/rocket on a stick normal damage, insta crit kill on hit person and splash damage to soldier+surrounding people; After explosion the stick can only do 60 percent damage and wont be refilled until respawn. For complete replacement would be the shell-shocker, a throwable that decreases the damage of the hit person/people instead of increasing damage dealt on them or slows them down and makes them deaf for a while.
imagine the character responses: Soldier gets shellshcoked: "HEARING IS FOR MAGGOTS! I AM NOT A MAGGOT!"
Thompson SMG is a nice idea, but it must not have the round magazine and the compensator, if you know your WW2's then you know thompson is good as shit in auto fire without the 1-inch wonder we call the compensator, m1 garand is bad idea, gives sniping ability to a class that doesnt need it.

How about a rocket launcher that can be charged to fire multiple rockets; like the one in Unreal Tournament? You could charge and fire all four rockets to deal massive damage instantly to an area the size of one rocket explosion. All four rockets would act as a single rocket that did four times the damage. If you hold the rocket charge for too long then when you fire the four rockets blast out randomly and inaccurately.
You could fire it regularly as well, though splash damage could be somewhat reduced. It's an idea.
I like the idea of a mortar launcher, but that seems more suited to the demoman. A grenade launcher that explodes on contact.
