I'm trying to do that, but I'm only keeping my favorite hat for each class. I'll list the ones I want.
Heavy: Toque.
Pyro: Glove.
Spy: Fedora.
Sniper: Panama.
Engineer: Cap.
Scout: His Beanie thing.
Soldier: Tyrant's Helm.
Demoman: His Pimp thing.
Medic: Mirror and Mask.
So far I have Toque, Tyrant's, and Ye Olde Baker Boy. Toque was a lucky craft of a Trophy Belt and a Pyro's Beanie.

I save all of my hats, even if I don't like them :3
I figure that even if I don't like them...
1. Crafting them may make me end up with losing 2 hats I dislike to get 1 hat I dislike.
2. Because if trading's released, I will have more hats to trade with as even if they don't look neat to me, they may look awesome to someone else.

Not that I'm jealous, I'm just getting pretty damn tired of seeing everyone walking around with the same hat on different characters.
It's like Gibus to me, only I don't mind Gibus as much because MORE people wear the Hat Towers due to it being considered a "rare" hat.
The fact that it can be worn on all characters make is a much less rare hat, as when people get a class specific hat, they're only going to be able to wear it on ONE of their classes. Which makes that hat less commonly seen than the hats equip able by all classes.

I'd say the Paperbag would count as a hat despite you unable to wear it. It's actually pretty rare to come upon since Valve ACTUALLY disabled people being able to get them.

Two things that Gibus should have shared:
1: Both should like the Gibus, be able to be worn all year round.
2: Both should like the Paperbag, have stopped being unlockable after Halloween.
This would have made both unlockables so much more fun :(
So at the beginning of yesterday i had a Towering Pillar, Billycock, and 4 Camera Beards.
Camera Beard + Billycock = Troublemaker's Tossle Cap
2 Camera Beards = Modest Pile of Hatte
Camera Beard + Modest Pile = Football Helmet
Football Helmet + Tossle Cap = Another Towering Pillar
2 Towering Pillars = Fancy Fedora
I don't play Spy or Scout in any way, shape, or form whatsoever. To be honest i don't care if the hat was new or not, that entire process was in the hopes of getting a Hound Dog and failing miserably.

I don't have the Tossle Cap anymore. It went into the crafting window with the Football Helmet to make a dupe Pillar
