Connecting will give a different error, and pop up a full blown error message. The only other errors I've noticed are in reading it, which pops ERROR if there's a character thats unsupported.
That's easily fixed by removing the guy's name from the line, or changing it, etc.
This is messily coded, though, you're right there. That's Uber's fault, though, not Jesse's.
