Just want to ask, what are the best weapons/hats/classes to practise skinning or modeling with? I'm new to the whole thing, I need something that's good for beginners.

And you can read some tutorials about SOURCE modeling in [url=http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Category:Modeling]this site[/url]. Valve Developer Community is a bit technical but very useful. NOTE:XSI Mod Tool 7.5 can't export .obj so you should use 6.0.

I've made it smaller, and I've fixed the lighting problem.
Fix the lightening. Play with the vmt file. In the first picture it kinda looks like it's been drawn in Powerpoint. :/ You should try adding an alpha map to the .vtf file. When $basemapalphaphongmask is set to 1, the alpha map serves as a light map. Black areas are matte, white/gray reflect light.

is the texture as low res as it seems to be?

God I wish I had more tolerance for modeling. I make the item, then suddenly I hit a point where I want to throw my computer. Stupid exporting crap. :argh:
Exporting it always the fun part. I tend to find I keep getting overlapping faces when I export, even if I check to see if the model is clean.
Exporting was a horrible experience for me, especially with XSI. Okay, time to export. "Crash" Okay...try again. "These can't be exported" WHY NOT?! Try again..."Exported" Piece of shit...now to do shit with the QC file. "Some dumb error shit" Oh I give up. Yeah, fun stuff.

I just began the unwrapping of the elephant gun so I don't have much to show at the moment. It's not as bad as I first thought, so tonight I'll have the UVW map complete and I'll begin working on the texture and the particle effects. In that regard, does anyone know anything about creating custom particles? Also, I think it should have a better name than Elephant Gun, but I suck naming things. Ideas? [editline]12:05AM[/editline] Speaking of particles, Robin just answered my mail and custom particles are allowed, we just have to send them in any of the two zip files of the submission.
