i love you

Indy was in fact the inspiration behind the theme!
Hey guys, haven't said much in awhile. I have been too busy jizzing over all of Wharks map pictures. That theme = genius.
Anyway, here is a update on my map.

Started to lightly detail and play around with geometry. Its pretty minimal/shit atm.
Also here is a something i have been working on as well.

I have big plans for that area, i like big open spaces. The inside areas where really getting to me.
Also, i have been working on random poop for other people as well!

Bet you never thought you could see solar panels bend like that!
[img_thumb]http://imgur.com/sjNcK.jpg[/img_thumb]
I love space themes
God dammit, how the hell is Valve gonna choose between Ritz, Wharks and Teras?
I feel like i should just help someone model stuff cause i feel like i cant detail worth shit compared to those 3 guys. I'm just so fucking slow.
Thats all for now.

If you don't win, will you release your models for other people to use?
Looks awesome, trey. The snake is way too big at the moment though.
Dat skybox on terabyte's map
If you don't win, will you release your models for other people to use?
I think you mean when i don't win, haha and of course! I mean, some animated models will have to be tailored to fit the terrain of peoples maps (like the snake), but all you would have to do is give me a vmf of the displacement and give the location of the holes you want him to come out/in and i could make it up in a couple of minutes(in the case of the snake that is)!
Looks awesome, trey. The snake is way too big at the moment though.
Crap, really? I just scaled him down.
He used to be 2 times the size.
Its hard to tell the scale in this video but he is alot bigger in it.

I mean i can easily scale him down, its just reanimating him so that he isn't hovering over the land. If you guys think he needs to be smaller, then i'm all down for it thought!
Indy was in fact the inspiration behind the theme!
I knew it!
I think this is really cool.
However like with most of your animated stuff, I think they are too distracting.
They are things that make you lose attention in combat, and therefor they are a thing that negatively effects gameplay.
I wish you'd focus less on implementing animated stuff, and focus more on the actual detailing.
Keep the animated stuff to a minimum, no matter if they are really cool.
Your map have more animated things than any map.
This is not necessarily a good thing, because it makes the map stand out A LOT through a means other than art style.
I think you should have some animated stuff, since it makes your map unique...
However the animated stuff should be kept to a minimum, and not be something that is in the center of attention.
Your animations should build onto your theme, not work as landmarks that the detailing on your map works around.
I honestly think the animated stuff is really handy and it makes certain areas more iconic. What was once "an indistinct, generic shed" is now "the snake shed" in the minds of everyone who goes there.

I like it as an art piece, but I don't think it would work well as a gameplay element that it will become if it's too distracting.
You are not supposed to pay attention to insignificant changes in the environment since this draws your attention from the battle, and therefor it is good to keep the environment clean from noticeable objects that the player might want to explore.
It is better to keep these things to the background or other areas where they will be things that add to the beauty of the environment without being too distracting to the player.
Unless they are things that are actually effecting gameplay like the train in Well or the blades in Sawmill, they are not supposed to be objects that the player should pay any attention to in battle.

Nothing will be that distracting for that much time.
In the end, everyone gets used for it and just plays normally.
Beauty has NEVER affected gameplay, as long as the map layout is designed for good gameplay.
Over-detailing never hurts anything, besides your FPS.
I see what simski is trying to say.
I think that the animations should only be there if they add depth and immersion into the environment, like the auto-miner rather then "Just because I can derp"
The snake is pushing it. It's like you're going at it with everything you got to try to make the most of yor skills, but a lot of it comes down to using a light touch if you want to be a good detailer.

Which will, in the end, hurt his chances at winning.
Perhaps the snake should be outside the map boundaries.
If I first saw it I would think that it might harm you or even kill you.

Yeah, considering that moving or animated objects in TF2 such as the ghost, the train and the saw blades are all things that means danger.
A lot of people will probably think that the snake is something to look out for, and this might negatively effect gameplay.
It's big, it's animated, and it's an animal with bad reputation.
Rumors about what it does could be started easily.

This is what I think too.
He's overdoing it with all the animated stuff.
If there's a little of it, it will be a nice touch to the map.
If there's too much, it looks too flashy and will get distracting.
Put the snake outside of the playable area. Problem solved.
Put the snake outside of the playable area. Problem solved.
This would hopefully work.
This would hopefully work.
How would it not?
If anything you should start leaving out the animated objects as it's probably slowing you down a lot when you should be finishing the map and play testing it.
How would it not?
There is still a chance it would be too distracting, but like I said... I do hope it would actually work.
There is still a chance it would be too distracting, but like I said... I do hope it would actually work.
It's really not that distracting in the first place.
Also don't forget that optimization is part of the contest. If your map gets 20 fps lower than all the others it's not going to win.
It's really not that distracting in the first place.
Opinion.
Yes, some may not notice the Snake or be distracted by it... however a lot of people will, and the aim is to avoid having anyone distracted.

By that logic people could be distracted by anything.
You know what, you're right. Let's just have a plain white map. No dev textures or anything, the pattern's distracting.

Oh for the love of christ, can't you just be happy that one of my above posts was actually agreeing with you for once?
