I was playing on a Valve server yesterday trying to sca-- play the game like a normal person, and there were 4 people from reddit saying "DIS GAEM SUKS BIG COKS"
I think for there to be more items for engineer there needs to be some sort of innovative thing from valve that they can balance and tweak easily. For instance, the demo and his sword and shield, there's so many ways that can be customized and it's pretty easily balanced because there are a bunch of different variables that can be tweaked so every sword is different and can appeal to different play styles, it's the same sort of thing with the buff banner and the rocket launcher. With the sentry gun it's different because it's much much harder to balance it and tweak it without making it feel like the same thing or breaking it horribly. I think valve needs to replace the engies pistol or shotgun with something new for them to get a lot of quality submissions for him.

Well there's your problem.
Also, I'd love some new Engineer items and Primary Demo weps. The game gets stale (for me) quickly after a new update. 1-2 weeks after the update, the game is just nothing but the same again.
And I think that's the problem: We haven't had something that's changed the game in a while. The class updates did that because they brought a brand new game mechanic with each one (Kritzkrieg, Pyro's Airblast, Sandvich, Dead Ringer, Jarate, Chargin' Targe, Buff Banner, Wrangler). While the Quick Fix introduces a new type of Uber, it doesn't do much to keep the game fresh.
Hey, ooh, hey hey, hey, robin, valve, guys, hey hey, ooh, tf2 team, hey, i got a good idea.
No no great idea, ready?
Ready ready ready?
Well here it is:
Make your own fucking engineer items instead of waiting for the community to do it for you.
Because valve's modelers and animators have nothing better to do than to keep making new items for a 4 year old game.
You only have the community to blame for not making decent engie items. It's not valves fault that the engineer has the fewest contributions.

I want more Engy packs that are "I'm an Engineer" not "HURR DURR I'M FROM TEXAS"

Doesn't make sense though, fire axes are supposed to be red
Hell if you Google "blue fire axe" the first result is a SPUF post suggesting the same thing

So you're saying Valve didn't make vanilla weapons? I fail to understand your logic.
You're comparing weapons made by Valve to community weapons, yet vanilla weapons don't count?

But but but Bull Horns and Belt Buckles and Bald Eagles and Baby Jesus!
Totally agree, there are far too many "Herp I'm from Texas and I'm a redneck" packs. We need more high-tech shit that isn't just "I taped a car battery to it" or replacement limbs.

That's a hatchet, for one thing, and it looks terrible, for another.

I like that some of his packs have a texas charm to it, an underlying cowboy theme. I do however hate that people confuse 'Redneck' with 'Texan'. Looking at you, Hill Billy Pack thats not too good.

Underlying cowboy themes aren't bad, but there are far too many that just take "Texas" and drive that up a fucking wall. Like the thing that Ritz is making. I'm sorry man, you make good shit and I love everything you've made, but that pack is just absolutely ridiculous. Ten-foot-tall ten gallon, belt buckle the size of a dinner plate, and a shotgun with a branding iron on it? It's just damn silly. Only thing I truly like from it is the pistol, and even then it took a bit of convincing to get the bull horns off of it.

I don't blame you for that, but it's just a theme. I mean, we have Heavies running around with a native American theme.
I don't blame you for that, but it's just a theme. I mean, we have Heavies running around with a native American theme.
I think his desire is for something new. We have seen very many Texan-themed item sets. The Hibernating Bear set was unlike other Heavy sets because it had a unique theme. Imagine seeing the contribution bin at Valve regarding Engineer items; I'm pretty sure that a rather large portion of the submissions were Texan themed. When you've seen that many of the same theme, things get stale.
No I'm comparing extra Valve weapons created outside of class updates
It would be pointless and silly to consider stock weapons when comparing how new weapons look compared to each other.

Enough with the cultural background themes, how about some themes suited to their professions? Its ok to have subtle hints in the nature of the item, but not stuff thats just blatant stereotyping
Doesn't the whole cultural background thing work both ways? I mean, how many Scotland themed items have we got for the Demoman?
Doesn't the whole cultural background thing work both ways? I mean, how many Scotland themed items have we got for the Demoman?
Most of his retarded melee weapons that destroyed a good class and split it into two
1. The Demoman, a class meant to double as both a hard to master but rewarding offensive powerhouse and a key to a good defense
2. The Demoknight, a class intended to kill things by rushing in and either missing completely or one shotting the enemy. Very rarely supports the team by acting as a melee-oriented flanker.
His stupid melee weapons are scottish, but I want more GLs, dammit!
I don't blame you for that, but it's just a theme. I mean, we have Heavies running around with a native American theme.
Hey Gerre, I like your pack. I like how it strays from the cowboy/texas style for Engineer, yet it can still stay true to his character. The hat and misc looks nice (Perhaps the wheat could be part of the hat?), but my only gripe with your pack is that there is only a single weapon (All the other packs in the game have 2 or 3, so I don't see this getting in game ), and that weapon looks quite gaudy with the pitchfork attached to it; It still looks like a stereotypical hillbilly gun without it.
I would suggest whipping something else to go with it, such as a melee or secondary weapon, so the TF2 team would look twice at your awesome pack.
Sorry for sounding so demanding, I just really want to see you succeed in getting the Engineer some cool new stuff.

Hillbilly only vaguely fits the Engineer, in that he is from Texas and Hillbillys are from Georgia and Tennessee and the surrounding area. However Im just nitpicking in this instance. I find it kind of a stretch to associate the Engineer with Hillbillys much less The Russian Heavy with the Native Americans.
People need to take into account that most of the Engineer stuff submitted has been new buildings, which are difficult to balance. Even the buildings Valve themselves made didn't work the way they wanted and needed to be scrapped. I highly doubt we'll ever see community buildings of any kind save for something simple like a mini-dispenser or something like that. Definitely not any of the over-the-top wild buildings we've seen created for Engie so far.
Another important factor that I think a lot of people are forgetting are custom animations. Many, if not all, of the quality Engie submissions I've seen so far have required custom animations of some kind. The Bigger is Better pack was amazingly awesome, but all of the weapons required custom animations and so it never made it past the chopping block. Valve doesn't have a pipeline for custom animations as I've stated numerous times in the past, so chances are if any of your custom items require custom animations it's a huge risk to it actually ending up in the game. The last time Valve made custom animations for community-submitted items, if I recall correctly, was the Mannconomy Update last year.
So when Valve says they haven't gotten any submissions that they could ship, it doesn't mean they haven't gotten quality stuff for Engie, it's just that the good stuff they've gotten just hasn't been feasible.

Like you said, it's a stretch, but it still makes sense if you don't get too technical about it.
Native American Heavy however....

Maybe it'd be less of a stretch if his ramshackle bumpkin gun was somehow not completely just a gun and actually was much more? Maybe it has wires and shit on it? durrr and a battery on the side hurrr
Another point was made based on the Hound Dog hat that the Heavy is very curious and is extremely interested in American Culture. This is never explicitly stated, however it is not impossible or even unlikely.
Primary: Hunting Rifle
+Same as Sniper Rifle, little less damage, maybe faster rate of fire
-No Headshots, no zooming
+Disguised Spies will show blood and will scream
+Cloaked Spies will show their outline for an extra second
Secondary: Nail Gun
+Same as syringe gun
+Heals buildings when they are shot
-Steals metal when fired
The problem is models though
Plus an out there idea: A mini dispenser (less healing, less ammo, faster building) that walks after you. Or even better: A dispenser backpack (can't upgrade, gives more ammo, builds faster, on death its dropped, slows you down drastically, will heal and give ammo to teammates over you)

We're comparing Valve's models to the Community's models.
Overall.
Croshi, that hunting rifle is a shit Sydney Sleeper.

Native Americans have red skin, and commies are the red menace. Close enough for Valve.
I don't see how this pack doesn't fit.
