Hey guys, here is one of the biggest changes of A2. One top of the other side routes and stuff i have changed the first spawn a lot. As you can see i have downsized the first area of the map. I also have given more sniper cover as well as more direct side routes to help keep people close to the action. I felt the narrow road at the start of the map was a bad choice as it congests everything, especially in Medieval mode, it also made the length of the map much to long. I have opened it up and given it some differing levels to help keep gameplay fun. I have also added a medium health pack on a platform to help out attackers/defenders.
whew i thought at quick glance the W.I.P said R.I.P
What is the destination of the Payload cart?
Watching the video on the first page made me realize just how much I miss the not fucked up jigglebones for the Holy Mackerel :(
This looks awesome so far, i like payload and i like Medieval mode. Is it going to be like DeGroot keep with some computers and things hidden or is it just going to be Medieval only?
Hey guys, more model update. As you can see it is a Iron Maiden. Some what detailed, just finished the UV and model not long ago. Hope you like it!
I wish I knew how to put props in maps properly, I can barely make a weapon work in TF2 :colbert:
It's cool but I don't think the blood on the spikes look very good. Either remove the blood, or make the blood appear more dried onto the spikes.

Because I think most people's curiosity will catch the better of them on something like that.
Will it have an environmental kill effect that closes in on anyone who walks in front/into it? Because I think most people's curiosity will catch the better of them on something like that.
Oh hell yes, if this is possible... PLEASE DO IT!
Make a more open version of it if you're having it so it kills people, then it'd be easier to knock or airblast people into it.
Wow, this is amazing.
Medieval king of the hill would be quite something..
Like this?
Yes, now I'll just have to find a way to ye olde airblast people into them.
Cool, but perhaps you should make it gib rather than ragdoll :O I know a real Iron maiden would keep the victim contained inside it and not explode into giblets, but I think gibs would still look better than the ragdoll of the victim falling out from the closed iron maiden. Also, could you perhaps make it slam the door faster? To make it seem like it closes because of the impact of the victim hitting the spikes.
The lighting needs work, maybe even a custom skybox. Right now, it doesn't seem to fit the map at all.
Ok so i am getting very close to A2. I have added wheel tracks for the cart all along its path as well as made home made blu painted arrows to help guide the cart. And just as a little experiment i wanted to try and add in the iron maiden into the map. As you can see there is a full health pack right in front of the iron maiden. Think of the iron maiden like the log in arena_lumberyard. It will (hopefully) help people from turtling on the full health, one wrong step near that health and your dead. If this is completely wrong let me know, i mean it makes sense to me. Call me optimistic all you want but i want to TRY and get A2 out tonight, all of its done i just have to
That is a very interesting idea you had :P I always liked that the log in arena as it was both a place that could make your survive longer, and a deadly hazard that could easily kill you if you weren't careful. In case having it be a full health pack might be a bit too much, then you could replace it with a medium pack. Full health packs are usually rather rare after all :O However no change needed if its effect on gameplay isn't too big. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] I must say I'm skeptic about the tracks though, it looks like their color doesn't match the floor that well. It looks too brown/red.

It looks too brown/red.
Well seeing as in arena health packs are so scarce a small health pack is enough to lure people to a potentially early death i thought it would take a lot more for a gamemode full of health packs (Seeing as they are spread around the map and are dropped by people). Of course if worst comes to worst i can always scale down the health pack a bit to a medium. I just felt that the new court yard in front of blu spawn is going to get very heavy in terms of fighting (I found narrow passages encouraged close range snipers far to much) and deserved a full health pack for the attackers/defenders. On the track colour issue, what colour do you think would fit? For right now i will leave it as is for A2 but i am happy to change it in a later version if you can show me or tell me a nicer colour. I do somewhat agree that it might be a bit red for dirt but it think it helps it stand out. I designed the track while overlaying it on a print screen of the road and it felt good enough to me! Thanks for the feedback!
You're probably right about the health pack size, as long as it's not in an area that gives one of the teams an advantage over the others it probably won't be an issue. Regarding the tracks, is it possible to make them transparent-ish? If so, then using a less saturated dark brown/gray color color might work well. That would make the tracks color adjust to the ground beneath it, and it would mostly just make the ground somewhat darker to make it look like something's been driving over it often. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] It's especially the saturation on your tracks that I don't find fitting.
Hey guys, here is Alpha 2. A little later than i wanted but at least its out. here is the change log from Alpha 1; -Added arrows and track overlays to show where the cart is moving. -Added animated capture point flags to cap 1 and 2 to help tell what team owns what point from a distance. -Down scaled start of the map. -Added more side routes to help getting to capture points very fast. -Fixed all arrow braziers -Added new medieval food and ammo types for health and ammo pickups -Added more lighting to the map. -Updated some models lighting origins to help make them appear better. -Removed all collisions on all stone arch ways. -Straightened out some of the path tracks that where going into tight areas. -Some layout changes to Reds first spawn. -Lowered courtyards fountain to allow all classes access to health and ammo. -Stylized buildings to help provide sniper cover. -Updated one area with experimental death trap: The Iron Maiden. So the theme of the map is a medieval prison with the blues trying to blow open the gate to escape?
I think the blue arrows and writing are a bit too bold, like they're too fresh. I wouldn't mind a bit more wear and tear on them. Also, don't make them all the same arrow!
Iron Maiden is a good idea.

Seeing as i cant use the track model like other payloads i use the overlays just to help explain where the cart is going. Also the theme of the map is the Blues escaping from prison and trying to push a homemade bomb cart from the prison into the reds main castle.
gee that looks great hope it becomes official
