Since the non-trading part of Unusual Trading seems to be comprised entirely of "Was/is this a good trade? Please tell soon", you could tell them to post trading in the trading thread and the aforementioned questions thread in Pricecheck. You can already see people who miss the Unusual Trading thread do it, like so:
Looking for Unusual offers. Favorite offer so far is Searing Plasma Toque. I have no idea what the value of different Unusuals are, so that's top offer based on what I personally like.

Hey I'm new to unusual trading, and I'm looking to buy a hat. Currently this guy is willing to sell me his Capo's Capper with Vivid Plasma effect on it for 3 buds. Is that a good deal or should I try and get lower or search elsewhere?
(Both posted less than three days ago)
Okay Craptasket, here's 10 reasons I came up with for why FHAIT should be kept and not moved into the trading thread: 1. Giving away items is not trading because you do not receive anything in the trade. 2. Giving away items is done for free, not for profit of any kind. 3. Giving away items does not require bargaining and therefore it does not belong in a thread where bargaining is supposed to happen. 4. Trading requires a buyer and a seller, while raffles or giving things away only require the latter. 5. Giving away items is pointless if it occurs in a thread where there is likely to be one of the same item already being traded for profit. 6. It will disrupt the nature of the trading thread, meaning that every time a raffle occurs, trading will stop, and every time a high value trade occurs, there's a large chance of someone thinking it is a raffle/giveaway. 7. FHAIT is a place for generous people to chat and show off the stuff they've given away, contrast with the gift giving thread, which was done away with temporarily because it was a circlejerk and no gifting was ever done. 8. The trading thread, on the other hand, is for business only, because people expect something in return for the items they are giving away. If someone posts a trade in which they require nothing in return, they will likely be added by so many people that they won't know who deserves the item the most. 9. The issue of people posting offtopic in FHAIT keeps coming up, and there's a simple solution, ban them. I don't care if you are going to whine about people not learning, keep banning them until they learn. Pascall said something like this a few pages ago anyway. 10. FHAIT draws people into the TF2 section. When they see that there are actually generous people in this section, they're likely to post more often in it. If it's just merged with the trading thread, along with some of the other changes you've already decided to make, this section of the forums will lose some of its notoriety and become just another section of the Games forum. Edit: I thought of another. The majority of the people who post in this section want you to keep it. People don't want you to get rid of FHAIT because it's a genuinely good thread filled with genuinely good people. Forcing it upon those people to take their business elsewhere will just make the people who invested so much time into being generous angry at you and anyone who agrees with your decisions.

Most likely if FHaIT is gone, less raffles and gift-givings will actually take place, and eventually dissipate altogether.

FHaIT is gonna be axed. Well, this sucks. Now I won't have the chance to enter some raffles because I'm not interested in some threads i.e. Trading threads.
deal with it, lmao
but craptasket i am a whiny tf2 section-goer and i want 20 different threads for all my hat trading and raffling needs!!!
deal with it, lmao
Oh come on, we tried to address your (and I assume other related mods) concerns regarding problems with the thread in an adult manner, and you respond with this?
deal with it, lmao
Oh shit they provided legitimate reasons to not axe the thread BACKPEDAL BACKPEDAL BACKPEDAL
Whiny shitty bullshit
Dude, you're the reason it's getting shut down. Your and your cronies' offtopic chat is turning the thread into a faggy free for all, and there's barely any gifting happening. You guys saw what happened in the Gift Giving Thread, and the results of that, so why are you reproducing what they did in a different circumstance?? You're only digging your own graves.
hey kiddo think about what you say before you say it
Congratulations, you invalidated literally none of my points made.
You said I'm an offtopic shitposter and you're as wrong as you can possibly be without having to literally dig a hole and bury yourself in it. I BARELY EVER POST in the Free Hats and Items Thread, I lurk, and I add people when they ask for something. But okay, if you're challenging me, I'll "invalidate" the rest of your points too. There have been at least three raffles in the past five pages, and they have all been completed without a single offtopic discussion. In fact, when it started to happen, people stepped in and put a stop to it before it actually got going. Your claims that the thread is made up of people chatting about things that aren't related to trading are completely FALSE, and you, just like Craptasket, haven't given it more than a single glance before claiming that it doesn't deserve a place in the subforum.

Second, you really think there's no gift-giving or raffles to be had? In the past half hour alone I've been in at least 3 raffles and in-game items (strange pain train, and a reclaimed metal to be specific) were given away. Where do you get the idea that nothing goes on there but off-topic chat? how can you people be so obsessed with bunch of cosmetic items in a video game
how can you people be so obsessed with bunch of cosmetic items in a video game
That isn't the point and you know it.
q_q
Good, you guys have improved slightly then!! If you can go 20 more pages without an offtopic discussion, I'm sure the moderators will consider your petition. (20 pages is usually how long megathreads go without offtopic discussion in other forums)
how can you people be so obsessed with bunch of cosmetic items in a video game
I'm not obsessed with virtual items, if I was, I wouldn't be arguing to keep a thread specifically for giving virtual items away to people who need them.
deal with it, lmao
I thought you wanted to talk about the changes, not dodge 10 good reasons on why to keep the thread.

By his logic we should merge all trade, price, item, and raffle threads into one enormous thread as to avoid being "obsessed with virtual items".

The "beggars" coming by is the whole point of the thread, hence the "free hats and items" portion of the title.

People may come up with accurate reasons to get rid of it but I guarantee they'll come from people who have never participated in the thread, and I've yet to see any good ones so far.
