Having every update thread merged into a megathread will be difficult for me. Each time an update comes out there's pages of discussion, and I don't want to have to search through every page on the off-chance that an update occurred. It would be ridiculous to have a major or minor update in with all the posts, nobody would ever be able to find it unless they went through every single post on every page.
Also it's not that much work to see if a update requires a thread or not. For example, the latest update added a promo. That's it. Doesn't require more than a notice. But if it added a bunch of promo weapons, or hats, etc, it'd be worth a thread.
But if it added a bunch of promo weapons, or hats, etc, it'd be worth a thread.
Since when were hats a big enough deal to warrant a thread if they were the only thing added?
Merging update threads is a bad idea. I don't want to search through hundreds of"omg nerf" posts to find an update log. And yes I check facepunch before updating.
Personally I kinda agree, It would be nice if we had a megathread, but the problem is an update megathread wouldn't tell you if there's been an update you didn't know about in the title.
Since when were hats a big enough deal to warrant a thread if they were the only thing added?
I mean ala the Shogun Pack.
Could make a locked and highlighted thread below the rules stating the most recent updates and the notes, but that would require a mod to edit it.
Garry only wants at least one sticky in each subforum, that being only the rules. So far I'm set in just merging the most unnecessary/ common purpose trade threads. Update threads untouched.
But i love the smell of new threads ):
Implement a patch posting bot and ban manual creation of the threads. Each patch needs to be talked about individually (i.e. a megathread would never work).
Implement a patch posting bot and ban manual creation of the threads. Each patch needs a separate thread largely because a single thread is not enough. And I didn't mean ban people who create the threads. Just close them and ban repeat offenders like any other rule.
I know you're going to hate hearing what I'm about to say, but most of the Games moderators have our minds set on what needs to be done with the section. That said, it's still unfair to do this without telling you guys in advance, so here's the low down: • [del]We don't need threads for every update; it's messy, and we don't need to have the older threads bumped. We either keep this rule the way it is, and we'll have to lock all the old update threads... or we can just have one update megathread. [/del][Settled to be left alone] That might be a bit easier to swallow than the next one: • We're going to be merging a few threads in the section; this includes the trading threads, as well a few other threads in the section which share some sort of common purpose. It makes no sense to have a general trading thread with all of the extremely specific trading threads in the section... so we're merging them. [Still Pending, Lowest settled at "merging the most unnecessary/ common purpose (trade) threads" ] List of threads being merged (in subject to changed & added): Free Hats and Items Thread is to me merged with the Trading Megathread [del]The real fun is guessing which threads make the cut.[/del] We'll be wanting your feedback. :pwn: Remember ~22 days it all happens

It's not a really good idea to merge the free thread with the trading thread because they each have different purposes, in my opinion. What I don't understand is why can't things be the way they are right now?

If you merge Free Items and Trading then we'll get the two parties complaining about eachother and it'll just end up as a difficult to moderate thread. As much as I hate to say it, just purging FHaIT would just be a better alternative. [editline];[/editline] Also, merge Unusual trading and regular trading. Why was it a separate thread to begin with?
If you merge Free Items and Trading then we'll get the two parties complaining about eachother and it'll just end up as a difficult to moderate thread.
How would there be any conflict at all.

That is what I was asking, why doesn't it make sense? I mean, if they each have a specific goal why merge them all? it would just cause trouble seeing people ask for free stuff on a trading thread or raffles and trade posts that will be covered by begging posts, etc, if you know what I mean.
Put unusual and normal trading threads together at least. Then there are a lot of more or less pointless "Post your" threads.. Hell what do I care I hardly even browse TF2 section anymore.
Merge "Items for games" and "Items for money", too.
Update threads should be made by specific people to avoid confusion / a gazillion threads as you said
I'm totally fine with merging "Pricecheck on X" with those other 101 trade threads... including unusual trades. but don't mix it with "Free hats n items thread" 'cuz it's not trading... it's giveaway. The items customization thread should get merged with "What should I paint my X" thread
I really don't see the point in changing something that works by people that don't even frequent the section. Hopefully we can get some more UrbEx threads in the shitty highlights instead (or even better, a hide button that REMEMBERS I hid it)
I don't think there is need for the Unusual Hat Value and "was this a good trade" thread. You can ask about unusual values in the Unusual Trading And Discussion Thread V3.
Free Hats and Items Thread is to be merged with the Trading Megathread What the fuck, those are completely different things, just LEAVE IT. [editline]31st July 2011[/editline] I vote for ned_ballad to make the update threads. He makes them greatly with all specific informations.

It doesn't seem logical to merge those two threads when their purposes are quite different. Organizing raffles is bogged down enough as it is.
Um, why is there a merging between a trading thread, in which people offer -Max Heads, Soldier Medals, and Unusuals-, with a raffle thread where newer people and generous people are invited to get/give free items? The reasons I can see why these threads are being merged is that 1) only in the past few days, people have been asking about the prices of items in the FHaIT for some reason and 2) shitposting problems that bug the mods too much. By mixing them together, you'll create a far more massive headache. Almost every raffler will have to check to see if their hat is going to someone with 2 or 3 unusuals, even someone's alt, etc., and the traders' posts will be swarmed and ignored due to all the raffle posts.

That would be something that a moderator would want. it would tidy up the forums a bit around here.

Having the responsibility solely on me would mean that an update thread could take hours, if not an entire day to go up.
