there's something confusing me about that, engineer claims to have designed the sentry, but in the engineer update his grandfather has the blueprints for it...
Quite possible he optimised it or whatever.
There are quite a few contridictions in TF2, such as Sniper saying "God save the Queen" when Australia most likely has a King.

Most of those contradictions are probably because TF2 didn't have a story back then, and as the story's built up they just haven't gone back and fixed up those iffy spots.

Actually, God Save The Queen was Australia's national anthem at that point in time.

Because of the British Empire etc.
But the backstory says that Australia has its own king meaning that the ingame Australia probably has nothing to do with the British Empire.
DMY has it correct though.

Switching modeling programs will not make you better. I'm not saying that you should not buy a more professional program like Max (because if you truly do want to do this professionally, it is not a bad idea), but I am saying that if you can only draw this:

in ms paint, you are not going to be able to do this:

in photoshop.
The program is not going to get you there - you are going to have to work very hard at it.
That said, good luck
I think he's just saying that if he's going to work hard to get better, he might as well do it in a more professional program.

You could, it would just take ages.

The explanation for that is that when Australia gained independance, it became a kingdom.
I'm writing up a jazz (big band) arrangement for Intruder Alert. I'm hoping to mix some elements from Playing With Danger (the instrumental parts, not rhythm (bass, guitar, drums)), and if I can, add a transition to a portion of MEDIC! and back to Intruder Alert.
I'll alert you when I've made some progress. I have been working on the basics today, though.
Also:

I think the zing one would be more different than the gunslinger, so more identifiable. Also i want to make a robot arm for the zombie sentry!
For the brain sentry, you should put the right half of the brain in the sentry, with robotic bits replacing the left half, and in the robotic hand put the left hand of the sentry in a little brain bubble with the same going on in there. Have a little cartoony antenna extending horizontally from the knuckle of the robot fist (kind of like Robocop's "plug knife thing"), and an antenna extending from the brain on the sentry.
Also, and I don't know why, but I'd love it if you could put an "Old World Blues" style monitor on the sentry.
the zombie sentry arm should have blood running down the engineers arm, like in the engy update image of Radigan with the gunslinger.

but they probably wouldn't have the British National Anthem then would they?
Look, we all know it's just an oversight so lets leave it at that.

I meant that it couldn't happen all of a sudden. The point of my post was to say that it will take a lot of work to get good. I'm not that great in the writing department, though.

Okay, here's what I think
Shape- the player shape is way too blocky, I drew some stuff below to show how the tail could be made much better with a tiny addition of tris, you could take off some polys from the feet who look extremely high poly than the rest of the important parts(tail, hands, etc)
Head- Not to sound offensive or anything, but the head shape is really messy, he nearly has no chin and the mouth kinda looks like it was carved in by
a machine, like a C with lines from the bottom and the top, the teeth could use some work too, seeing as they are same sized triangles. Make them random,
give them some random lengths and a bit random rotations, have some extended fangs to bulk out of the bottom of the face at the front of the mouth.
About the flat chin, cartoon and cultural dragons usually have pointy chins, you can try to stick with the cartoony style and skew it more at the front.
Horns- idk this is just my opinion but I think that the horns are too small and straight, if the face needs to look simple enough i'd suggest to have big, curvy horns instead of the small ones.
The tails shape is kind of wrong, try stretching the topper part of the beginning of the tail(closer to his ass) up a little bit and the next one in a smoother shape to make it look wavy or whatnot, right now
it just looks confusing.
A little detail on the top of the wings could be cool, too.
Texture- If the player shape still remains really blocky, from what ive seen Valve always hide that with beautiful AO and painted on shadows, I suggest you give your dragon noticeable shadows because right now the color just looks unfitting and doesn't blend in with the scene- which brings me to my color scheme suggestion, IMO the green dragon is way too bright and the orange one has a muddy hue(the bad side of orange)
The scales are a nice touch, but they are used too much and they stretch too far in many parts and adding that up to the blocky shape of the model makes them look painted on rather than natural, like someone put it in a tight net and pulled hard.
Wings- assuming he is a dragon and walks around naked all the time inside a battle zone, his wings need some scratches and wear&tear brush strokes to make him look more battle bruised and blended with the scene.
I'd also suggest making the thorns or spiky things on the tail and back of the arms in a slightly brighter color than the dragon itself, once again they kinda blend in too much with his normal body.
Have some shitty overlays

I'm fearful for the Engineer's safety with his boneitis.
Gunslinger animations will appear horribly painful; both the Organ Grinder taunt and the triple-punch hand uncurling thing.

The thing on his fingers is some sort of electrified brass knuckles, so he won't get hurt when hitting his buildings. But of course i forgot about the taunt.

Wow. Umm... Wow. That is some constructive criticism. [sp]NoNameForEvil: take hints[/sp]
Model
The spines are definitely blocky. I agree with you on that. I can fix that.
Head: I like the general shape, however I agree with you on the chin. It is kinda small now that you point it out. On the mouth, again, I agree with you. The teeth were always an issue with me. I like the idea of the smaller teeth and the fangs.
Horns: I actually like the small horns how they are now. I never really liked those long curvy horns.
Tail: I'm not sure what you're trying to say here...?
Wings: They seem fine to me.
Texture
I did skip the ambient occlusion on this because, when I started this, I thought it would look worse with it. As for the color scheme, I wanted it to be green and orange, basically how it is now.
Don't even get me started on the scales. I am definitely NOT a details guy.
Battle scars: Maybe.
The lighter colors on the spines on his back, arms, and tail: I'll have to see it to make a judgement on it.

Not bad at all. A more standard sniper would be nice. I wouldn't keep the "Mann Co." label though.
[editline]21st August 2011[/editline]
Oh, and that as a replacement for the default sniper would be nice.

Tails normally have the bigger part closer to the body and it gets smaller when you go further away from it, yours seems to have somewhat a small beginning, then it suddenly curves and becomes bigger and then small again, should be where I marked the "???"
-Aaand by wing detail I meant little pointy things at the top, to keep the other parts together
