Could we see some sketches of these other guns? Not everyone has a firm mental visualization of what a "ray gun" looks like, for example, some people might think of different things while still maintaining the same base idea.

this is what i meant...
Thats what i have so far.
quick moc The minigun part should be replaceable. Options so far are ray gun, re-gen gun, teleport gun, zapping gun. More can be suggested.
I think you should just make a little sentry backpack like and then another laser remote, like the wrangler, and have a laser on the sentry backpack so that it'd be shoot in the direction you pointed it in. Something like that would probably get ingame as a secondary weapon. The laser remote could look something like this random image i found :v: It would save Valve time on doing actual animations...
I personally like the idea of it being based off of sentry parts since he has expertise with his buildings. The claw trident, radio dish vibrator, and firehose nozzle all may look nice, but they just don't feel like the Engineer's creations, you know? Even if he got items from the Dr. Grordbort pack it may have been fitting for his expertise, but I don't think that they'd fit his character as well as something based on his sentries. But I like your work a lot, so I'll trust your judgement on what looks fitting.

I'm more concerned on the notion of swappable parts than anything else. Another possibility is selecting the weapons as styles making this a gameplay variable that depends on the style you select. Some notes on the sketch... minigun = low power minigun trident/claw = teleport gun. Point to ally or enemy and they will be teleported to your teleport exit. cannot make teleport entrance. radio dish = ray gun. Shoots lasers. firehose = re-gen beam. medics rage. missile launcher = missile launcher. The teleport claw seems to be the brightest spot of the concept but may be OP.
the concept of a firehose backpack reminds me of Mario Sunshine
looking back at it. i think the teleport beam is the only interesting idea about it aside from the fact that i'm making the engineer another walking sentry.
Statistically, I could see it working well using the Quake Machine Gun's attributes. Rather accurate and quick RoF but somewhat weak damage that adds up if you can aim it. I dunno, just rattling off what's on my head v:v:v
Cool Chullo only shows up red for me even when I'm on blu Did I install something wrong?

My question is, why?
All of those ideas in their own right only serve to have the engineer emulate all the other classes. My question is, why?
You got any bright ideas? And the Radio dish is arguably the most unique out of the bunch, since lasers aren't exactly a mechanical emulation as it is an aesthetic emulation.
You have to be disconnected from the internet to make TF2 to use your own items_game.txt instead the one from API.
Wait, so not to be rude or anything, but doesn't this completely invalidate your mod? The API switch-over was the reason I stopped updating my mod, and I was hoping that you were making yours because you found a workaround.
You got any bright ideas? And the Radio dish is arguably the most unique out of the bunch, since lasers aren't exactly a mechanical emulation as it is an aesthetic emulation.
How about emulating the engineer?
All of those ideas in their own right only serve to have the engineer emulate all the other classes. My question is, why?
The main hook was the ability to swap gameplay mechanism with the style of the weapon. But yeah other than that, there really isn't anything new with the other variants. I'll focus on my engie helm for now than to bother even more with this concept. For now, the only real gameplay interest i see is in the teleport gun. Aesthetically, the radio dish looks the most appealing.
How about emulating the engineer?
Why would you emulate an Engineer when you are an Engineer? To do that would just be going full-circle. If grafting parts of his buildings to his own body and/or attair isn't emulating the Engineer, then what the hell is?
Originally Mecha the Slag and I had an idea for a weapon in weaponizer worked out: It was a weapon that did more damage as more people used your buildings. To prevent superpowered engineers running around while their team sat at a dispenser by the spawn, there would also have to be a range limit. As such, maybe there could be a railgun or other such low rate-of-fire weapon that had a mini satellite dish on it? It could possibly come with dish attachments for the dispensers/teles, so that teammates knew that they were assisting you by using it.
He's not a heavy or a soldier or a medic for one thing.
He has some of their abilities at his disposal, while not as powerful as those classes. It's a generalist sort of thing, he just applies them through stationary buildings, which encourages him to be defensive. And you can't really claim that a rapid-fire hitscan weapon is Heavy specific. If that's so, then the Sniper is the most nimble goddamn Heavy I've ever seen.

Especially if the stuff is mounted on him, more buildings is fine, but having him running around doing those things just eliminates the need for other classes at all.
Uh, miniguns are pretty heavy specific....
It's as if Sentry Guns don't even have them mounted upon them as primary sources of damage output since 2007. The difference is that one requires spooling while the other essentially turns it into a high-tech SMG.

Not every player will like being teleported, and I would bet any money it'd be nicknamed the "grief-gun" the moment it would arrive in game. Teleporting enemies might be fine, but judging how the sandman was treated, it could end up heavily nerfed to prevent it from breaking the game. (Engies teleporting everyone all over the place). And I doubt a heavily nerfed teleport gun would be a good alternative to any of the engineer's weapons.
3:38 PM - [FAUCᴱT] Psychopath: And the teleporter idea, while iffy, seems like a touchy thing to tamper with in the form of a weapon 3:39 PM - [FAUCᴱT] Psychopath: on one hand, it helps the engineer, but could potentially be used selfishly instead of for the good of the team. On the other hand, it could potentially be used to grief teammates or just disorient them in general if you can teleport them. 3:39 PM - [WDZ] Exotic Ronin: kinda yeah 3:39 PM - [FAUCᴱT] Psychopath: it's a matter of control and teamwork 3:40 PM - [FAUCᴱT] Psychopath: you don't want to impede on teammate's control of themselves but you still want to encourage teamplay 3:40 PM - [FAUCᴱT] Psychopath: and teleportation that doesn't involve voluntarily standing on a teleporter seems like a fickle area to venture into, gameplay wise
[editline]asdf[/editline] Oh bloody hell, you guys are already talking about it.

Worked on the texture a bit as well as a normal map. And since its a misc here is how it looks paired with some hats. Not all of them of course.
Since people seem to be talking about a teleport gun, here's something completely different. This would lag a server to hell and back, but hilarity at people trying to kill hologram bots.
