I can see the fun in competitive play (highlander especially), it sounds like sometime i'd be interested in, what with the importance of teamwork and communication along with studying the mechanics of the gameplay to the point that your interactions are more complex and calculated and this sounds nerdy as fuck so i'll stop now. But, I don't think I could being as: 1. I'm really mediocre at the game. 2. I have a less-than-great setup and internet connection. 3. I have a lot of custom content (mostly weapon skins and fixes) that I really don't care too much for playing without. 4. I can't really be relied on as a member of a team to be able to play when I'm needed 100% of the time.

There are plenty of leagues out there for people new to competitive play who are probably mediocre as heck. 2: As long as you can get ~60 FPS, you should be ok. Internet connection is more of a problem...how bad we talkin' ping wise... 3: sv_pure 2, if you join the server before joining any other servers, should load the game and disable the custom content correctly. It only freaks out if you say, join a pure 0/1 pub, then join a pure 2 pub. Wireframes, everywhere. 4: This is what Pick Up Groups (PUGs) and Lobbies (tf2lobby.com) are for. :]

As long as you can top the scoreboard every time you try hard in a public server as scout/soldier/demo/medic, you should be able to do comp TF2 with good success
Eh, I'm usually only in the top-middle section of the scoreboard as offensive classes. Offensively I main Soldier, but my overall main class is Engineer.

Either way, competitive play isn't for me. It sounds pretty interesting and fun but i'm just not the sort of material.
As long as you can top the scoreboard every time you try hard in a public server as scout/soldier/demo/medic, you should be able to do comp TF2 with good success
Not true at all, TF2 is a team game, not a solo game.
Not true at all, TF2 is a team game, not a solo game.
true, but chances are if you're topping the scoreboard you have a bit of team coordination going on, even if it is a pub. Plus it means that you have DM skills to fend for yourself if your team all dies.
:v: ?
huh ? 6 boxes, wow, i didn't know facepunch had THAT number of comp. players.
huh ? 6 boxes, wow, i didn't know facepunch had THAT number of comp. players.
or maybe you got boxes because it was a bad post
or maybe you got boxes because it was a bad post
I'm just telling my own experience. Also, i thought random pubbers where a pain in the ass about this lack of medic and shit, but people on mix are just rude if you fail at anything playing as medic.
I top pub scoreboards because of my awareness, my skill at all the classes and because the average pub player is absolute shit, I don't top pub scoreboards because I work with my team.
so you're saying in a game of 10 vs 1, the 1 being you, you'd win no problem?
so you're saying in a game of 10 vs 1, the 1 being you, you'd win no problem?
Depends, but with the recent in-flux of F2P players, that really isn't too difficult. If you're really good and play smart you could easily do that with how newish/bad the people on most of the pubs I've been frequenting (not even Valve ones) are...like 150-5 K-D w/o a Medic etc. @_@
so you're saying in a game of 10 vs 1, the 1 being you, you'd win no problem?
You're an idiot...
